Since the price of tickets is the same in each state it's probably irrelevant to the percentage of sales. I don't know if the 1st PB drawing they could play is an accurate indicator for the future, but California players started out by buying almost 23% of the tickets sold.

I don't think I will play PB anymore. I just doesn't make sense to spend $2 for PB because:

1. The odds of matching all 5 white balls plus one red ball are about the same as $1 MM.

2. The odds of matching all 5 white balls but missing the red ball (1 in 5,153,633) are worse than $1 MM (1 in 3,904,701).

Assuming sales of PB tickets in California are similar to sales of MM tickets (about 20 to 25% of total sales) California should average a winning ticket about every 28 to 35 drawings. Based on that we should expect a winner by the end of June or early July.

The PB jackpot increases at least $10M each time it's not won regardless of tickets sales. This is why some thought it was underfunded until it reached $90M and could fail but with Californians playing it should be fully funded at a lower level now.

After the California residents start bying large numbers of PB tickets it will be interesting to see the progression of the jackpots. Will we continue to have $40M thru $100M with the agreed to increase of $10M added to each new Jackpot or will the higher sales results from California result in jackpots exceeding the minimums up to th $100M level?
