The question of knowing who won it is the clincher. if it was a found quick pick, and you happened to check it, maybe the sdtore was announced as the place it was purchased. then i might write my name on it, and hand it into lottery HQ, stating its a bearer instrument wheres my money. and leave all other questions unanswered except with its a bearer instrument wheres my money.

Finding a ticket someone was looking for depends on your honesty and intelligence. You know the ticket was lost, the lottery will publish the store location selling the ticket, and the person losing the ticket knows they bought it there. I'd tell the lottery officials exactly how you came into possession of the ticket and it's possible the ticket could go unclaimed and you could get the prize. The person losing the ticket might give you a nice reward.

I would give it to them to sign of course after I signed it....Hey I could just keep the darn thing and all that cash to myself....If I hadnt picked it up they may have gotten nothing at all A lesser individual might would have kept it to themselves LOL

So if you did find one on the street or where ever and it was an unsigned winning ticket....you wouldnt turn it in....people find treasure in the trash allll the time...if ticket is unsigned it is a bearer document in my state

As long as the ticket is unsigned, it's legal to cash it in. At least here in florida, the ticket is a Bearer instrument, meaning whomever has that ticket (unsigned) in their possesion is the legal owner. This is why they urge people to sign it as soon as possible.

Now, on the moral side of the story, If the person was told by the clerk that he or she won the JP, and the person got so excited by flailing their arms, dropping the ticket as they bolted out the door in excitement, then of course... [ More ]

yes, but how would i know it was the winning ticket. of course id hand it back, what else is there to do ? crack ther person over the head and take it??

I have handed back money people left, purses women dropped etc. although i have felt insulted when they looked thru and counted their cash before thanking me. I guess im somewhat strange.

yes I would hand it back to whomever bought the ticket. If you claim the winning ticket, lottery officials will ask you how you got the ticket. Telling them that you picked it up off the ground sounds like a shady answer.

I never pick up any lottery ticket I didn't purchase because I don't feel comfortable cashing a lottery ticket I didn't purchase. It may be legal but I just don't think it is right for me to cash it.

Unless there was a story in the news that someone local won a jackpot recently, I doubt if anyone would pick up any lottery tickets. There are always lottery tickets blowing around the gas stations where I buy my tickets and no one gives them a second look.
