I thought I had read from news reports or what not that if there was a rollover the EST Jackpot would have been 925Million. That is close enough and perhaps with the many more sells the EST Jackpot would have been $1billion. I'd say anywhere from a 650-700million cash value

Even if there was one winner, the net would be way less than $1 billion, so the winner will not be a real billionaire. But th lottery will still make you hold the big faux check for $1 billion so they can call you a billionaire.

If there are 1 billion ticket sales for a drawing, then the average number of winners would be 1 billion / 175 million = around 5.7 winners as an average.

A billion dollar PB jackpot would have a cash value of about $630 million, which requires total sales of a bit less than a billion tickets. Why do people insist on saying no one needs X amount of money? I don't NEED indoor plumbing either, but I want it. It makes for a much easier life.

Personally, I wouldn't mind a game with a capped jackpot - but that's not the point of these multistate games.

Leave that for state run games, or multi-state games with smaller state pools. Games like MM and PB were meant to create huge jackpots. Because that's what sells tickets, because that's what customers want. Everyone knows you don't NEED half a billion dollars, but most people want it. (Myself included for sure.)

No one needs 1/2 billion dollars, even in fantasy land.

That's basically true. A gaming mathemetician estimated that if it isn't won this drawing, that a billion dollar jackpot would have a 1 in 27 million chance of NOT being won, and that it would average out to have a 17 way split. Impossible isn't the right word, but it's so unlikely it basically is.

If it was my comment I made earlier in the week, what I actually said was, if they didn't allow me to collect it anonymously, then I probably wouldn't want to win $1B. I actually don't see it as being obscene. The money wasn't my concerned.

From the advertised jackpot, you can figure that minus annuity, minus taxes, you keep about 1/3 of that.

So from a few hundred million, if you waste it on a bunch of houses in the 30-50M range, multiple 1M+ parties, gambling, vice, etc., you pretty much spent it all. Then the recurring expenses eat you up. Among the super rich, a few hundred mil ain't a lot. If you try to live like a billionaire when you are not, you have only yourself to blame.

I'm not sure if we could define an 'obscene' amount. It seems subjective for each person. Who knows, if one person won, maybe they could give lots of money to charity then it might be considered less obscene? Then again they might not...

One thing is for sure, win or lose, I'd get my money's worth from the lotto fever generated by such a large jackpot.
