The payout is around 50%, so you need to win around 200% to break even. It isn't all about averages.

The problem of reasonning that due numbers and combinations are it, is that you might be betting much longer and higher on that chance then it will pay you back.

The other thing with the averages is that the differences expressed in frequency can be big and only show small in percentage.

Its so easy to cut and paste Pick4 history from NJ Lottery. Its not so easy to do it with Pick3. I may have the answer.

Reliability??...in the sense that the programming is always reliable? Balls aren't.

Sometimes even the predraws can't escape the inevitable and you probably can't get

away with more than 7 anyway.

Cost??.....What does cost matter unless you're a huge organization that makes huge profits

and need a coverup that makes it appear as if you're in the same boat as the little guy?

Yeah, they allowed you to play all the doubles you wanted.

But they had the computer programmed so doubles could never win.

They let it go on a little too long though and got caught.

That's why discerning players prefer the mechanical ball machines.

Yeah, I thought you might have meant California specifically, but big board, lots of lottos, so when a question like the one in the OP is being asked, any lotto any state seems to be the default.

The references in this thread to Tennesse, if I remember right, are that when TN first got the lottery players could play triples in the Pick 3 but none could ever be drawn.

Thanks Coin Toss-l however am interested in how the games unfold in this fair State. That computer generated crap is in all our games except MM, PB, Super Lotto Plus.No disrespect intended bud.l read a report where a lottery official wrote that its cheaper to use CGN because to replace a singular ping pong ball for say the MM game cost up to $40, 000. I thought that completely outrageous.

There's a quicker way to find out which state uses balls or RNG's. Go to results in the blue bar and click on State Lottery

Not all states use computer generated numbers for the Pick 3 and 4, noise-gate.

Illinois still uses ping pong balls and since Iowa uses Illinois' numbers for those games I guess you can say Iowa does, too.

Just go to the Results section, pick any state, ant game More, and Game Information.

Here's is Illinois Miday Pick 3:
