Totally agreed. I love the outdoors and nature. So maybe somewhere in Colorado or California close to the forests/mountain area. I'm really content with where I'm living at now (location and home) so my vacation or 2nd home would be somewhere outdoorsy where I can do tons of hiking/camping/kayaking/etc.

It doesn't matter if it's a affluent gated community with just 20 houses because Murphy's Law says at least one of your neighbors will be a snob. You're question is odd because why would anyone with multi-millions want to move into any neighborhood when they could buy or build a house in the middle of 10 or 20 acres with a fence around it

You conveniently left that part out when quoting me. As far as the clothes, I'd like to see some stats on that. I find it hard to believe the first thing they'd do is break into a house for clothing. If they were that smart to break free, they'd have a tad more sense, meaning, a plan of action following the prison break would have to be as successful as the break itself to come to fruition.

I agree 100%! Sounds like you read the book the Millionaire next door. And I think most wealthier neighborhoods would be flattered to have a nice low key lottery winner living there. Money is money and trust me you will be invited to more high end charity fundraisers than you can handle. Act like a reasonable person in any neighborhood and you will be accepted. Act like a defenisve jerk, and you will have issues.

I totally agree I do not want to associate with those kinds of people at all. Which is why I would not move into those homes/neighborhoods either. I'd rather live in a smaller, nicer neighborhood with modest homes and make great friends with awesome neighbors and have weekend BBQs and have a blast.

Dude, you know most millionaires live in modest homes (they can very well be your next door neighbor right now), drive older cars, do not wear expensive clothing or watches, do not have huge million dollar mansions. People who win jackpot may have a lot of money, but that does not make them wealthy. See what this Edwards guy is doing in 10 years and I bet he will be alot more poorer than he is now.

Dave Edwards could have lived in that community, happily, securely, lavishly for the rest of his life with neighbors having no issue with him. I think that what irked the neighbors was that his house was a million dollar crack den and the cops being called a few times. No million dollar community wants that. No community wants that. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the thing that made Dave Edwards stand out, regardless of what neighborhood he was in, was Dave Edwards, not his money. I'm also going to guess that if somebody had attacked him, his neighbors weren't going to rush to help. I don't expect they'd be rushing to help you, or anyone else, either.

In case you're confused, a house across the street from a prison is in a direction that's diametrically opposed to the prison. And if somebody breaks out, they're going to be looking for a change of clothes, at the very least. Unless your house is right next door to a clothing store your house will be the store.

I think what you like can change.

We bought a house that was out in the country.

It was an acre back off the road so we have a tretorous driveway to contend with.

I liked being out in the middle of nature.

It was like living in a state park with all the trees and wildlife but man is that hard work.

I tried chopping wood. It isn't for the demure.

It took a while to drive places etc.

I didn't like the fuel oil. Natural gas couldn't make it to us because we were past the creek... [ More ]

Even if I won this massive $350 PB jackpot, I would never spend anything more than $500,000 on a home. It's likely you wouldn't find yourself in too much of a snooty hood around that price.

Most likely I would rent in a nice apartment complex that has some nice amenities like a pool, spa, nice workout center, garage parking, etc. Forget paying exorbitant property taxes if anything breaks, landlord will fix it.

There are plenty of wealthy people who made their fortunes other than via the lottery and they live in various places and do fine.

If you win and are really after safety, a town near where I grew up in Northern Jersey had the safest street in town - three houses in a row that beloinged to the mayor, the local Capo de Capo, and the Chief of Police.

I'd rather my kids grew up around snobs in the neighborhood than the people I grew up around. And yes, those type of neighborhoods have great security so I would definitely be moving in that type of environment if I won big.

Like others said, if you are concerned about what your neighbors think, you are not going to be comfortable anywhere.

One of ZZ Top members lives in the manned gated neighborhood near me, yes, he sports that beard. While I have not seen him, my coworkers who live here have seen him tooling around in his Maserati. With this weeks jackpot my answer would be both. I like the entertainment and nightlife and energy of a big city but I also need quiet time. As for labelling a neighborhood as rich snob - how would you know if you haven't lived there. Also if you had serious FU money then what do you care about what your neighbors think. And thirdly, in affluent neighborhoods with large homes I doubt the neighbors spend much time interacting with each other, snobbishness would be a non issue.

I think if one is always worried about how someone will treat them or fitting in, the problem may be with the worrier. I am sure the vast majority of the LP people would fit in whereever and I cannot say I ever worried once about fitting in in my life. There are snobby or rude people at all economic levels and it really comes down to personal choice. If someone dislikes someone, it may have little to nothing to do with money or status.
