Any chance you might be referring to a post I made about how probability results in duplicate combinations? I'm not going to dig up the one Todd commented on, but here's the short and simple version. After they've sold 1% of the combinations you should expect that 1 out of every 100 tickets with random combinations will be duplicates from the first 1%. When 2% of combinations have been sold 2 out of every 100 tickets with random combinations should be duplicates from the first 2%. And so on.... [ More ]

Someone once provided a breakdown I believe even Todd remarked on....it described

just how the quick pick pool might be handled.

I think their is going to be at least two winners but maybe more than that. Like one from cali and one from texas and one from new york and one from florida just to round it out. The states that sell the most tickets probably will have the winners. I will be surprised if oregon hits the jackpot because when oregon won the $340 million powerball jackpot in 2005 I was happy but very surprised since we don't sell a lot of tickets.-weshar75

How many are winners has nothing to do with it. Its a simple functon of the percentage of tickets using random combinations, the percentage using combinations that are specifically picked, and how many tickets are sold.

Picking combinations randomly maximizes the number of combinations that are used, because when people pick specific combinations they pick them from a subset of the possible combinations. There are only a few combinations based on obvious playslip patterns, multiples of 5, and... [ More ]

No, not even MUSL knows that until all the combinations have been checked for winners. I remember someone once mentioning 25-35% of combinations sold are duplicates.
