How are the incraments of the jackpots determined? Powerball seems to grow by 10 million untill it gets into the larger jackpots. Are they based on percentage of ticket sales or something else? Hot lotto jackpots seem to crawl at $50,000 each time. For something with 1 in 29 million odds that seems a bit low, but it sells less tickets too.

It depends on what MM decides to do, and what interest rates are going forward.

With the new 1 in 258 million odds for mega millions this fall its possible to see mega millions hitting a billions dollars 2 or 3 times a year.

Well, someone in Florida won a Powerball Jackpot worth $590.5 million dollars.

Yes, I can believe that too. More than likely, Powerball will get there first, because of its $2 ticket price. Mega Millions is making a pathetic attempt at it too later this year though, by going to a 5/75 + 1/15 matrix! I don't think the new Mega Millions will work though.

I posted several post in 2005 and 2006 about whether we would see a $400,000,000 Jackpot in our lifetime. We've had 3 in last 2 years. I believe we will see a billion dollar jackpot by 2015. Its not a stretch right now to believe it, with Jackpots soaring. Its exciting.
