Really? So, a professional trader waits until the price of a stock rises, or, begins to rise before considering to purchase? Maybe I'm misunderstanding you completely, but the stock must begin to rise at some point as it cannot remain low or continue to drop forever...for the most part. Years after that manager told about his observations, I noticed quite a few traders and managers that had started as professional gamblers. Even met a few options traders that had been banned in Vegas. They all became millionaires in the markets--even the ones starting from bankruptcy. I guess the stuff they learned or figured out from gambling and profiting on random sequences REALLY works well in less-than-random sequences--just like you observed above.... [ More ]

On the road, this topic suddenly came to mind and I think its not a bad idea after all.

The problem with gaming losses is that they are deductible only to the extent of your winnings.

I believe this idea solves that problem.

Anyone can register/start a business, a software company, dedicated to developing a winning system, charge lottery wins/losses as income/expense as testing expenses and end up either winning, which is subject only to sales tax or being able to charge your losses as

Hmmm... after I sent that post it suddenly hit me... the futures markets are approximately a zero-sum game, where profits are equal to the losses for all the players. With the lotteries the payouts don't seem to equal the pay-ins? The state--or whoever--is removing half the money going in?

He found that in a random market--which he compared to any of the random games of chance--one could average a profit by managing their bet-sizes and bankroll the same way an investor would. Your points are well understood, accepted and RESPECTED. I find my ripened fruit at least 3-4 times per week...and I pick it every single time. Here and there, I have to give a piece of the fruit back (loss) which is fine by me...it's part of the deal. Due to the averages of how I play my game though, I remain ahead in terms of profits.

In and general monetary sense of the discussion I agree. But I'm one of those guys who believes in things that cant be seen or proven (like the existence of a sky God who created all things)

I believe that not winning is a win win situation for me and all the other jackpot game players. One of us wins every time a jackpot is awarded and when its not me I don't consider it a loss , but rather that my timing was just off by a little or perhaps that my fruit was not quite ripe yet.

What you failed to mention/realize, is that unlike real businesses, there's nothing you can do to improve your odds of making the right choices/predictions or anything. There's no fixed expected return on investment in a business, but in the lottery it is always less than what you paid.

I agree with your last sentence. It is well possible to make money with small lottery games (Pick 3 for example) but this requires business-like approach. I run my own small business and played Pick 3 and can see similarities clearly. In business you select what product(s) or service(s) you provide and stick to it/them. Hmmm. Well, what you're describing here with the Flip and Mirror terminology doesn't quite register with me. However, I'm quite familiar with the 1up and 1down deal. These are simple everyday occurrences in the game which must be accounted for if you're going to be consistent and win.

I agree. I make a lot of money several times a week on the Pick 4 Lottery in N.C. I have noticed that when I get greedy and try to double down a a set of numbers there is always a Flip , Mirror , or 1up and 1down scenario that keeps me from winning. I have my own strategy that I have created on paper and pencil that hits more consistent than many of the programs that many players use. I shared one of my systems with an LP player after I hit the Pick 4 everyday for about a week and after sharing

I'd like to focus on only the first two sentences here. What you say is actually true but, there are also reasons behind it all as well. The main reasons, in my humble opinion, are failure to implement and stick to a proper systematic approach, and, greed.
