A while back I found a couple of winners. This was around the time of the two ladies and the dumpster ticket controversy...I was motivated to see if I could find just one with even $1 on it and I did.

I have and I did!! Picked up a $1 scratch-off outside of a 7/11. The person obivously did not understand the game, $100, thanks to someone. A couple of mornings later, a young woman carrying a baby approached and ask for money to buy milk, gave her $50.

Not lottery tickets but there are people who scour the horse racing tracks seats and the race books in casinos looking for discarded winners every day. I forget the proper term for them (there ar plenty of slang ones).

Back in the days when slot machines paid out in coins and not credits there were people who would go through the casinos in the 'wee' hours and pull handles and push Cash Out buttons on poker machines to see if anyone had left winners in the machines - very common.

Sometimes I pick em up in the pick 3, just curious to see what those people were playing. Or I will just kick a ticket on the ground until it flips right side up, in lieu of picking it up.

Picking up discarded tickets is a sign of desperation.

Sometimes I will scan a discarded ticket left on the counter. It is invariably a loser.

If you get to thinking one of those tickets is a winner, you will just get yourself nuts. Its like looking for money on the ground. Your just gonna get yoursel... [ More ]

One of the grocery stores around here is very popular with seniors and they leave their discards on the food court tables. I used to pick them up when I first started playing scratch offs. Not because I thought they were winners but I wanted to check them out to get familar with the different games. Plus they usually buy $10+ tickets and I never buy those.

I know it's littering but I have discarded some year old tickets around places that sell lottery tickets. Since I save them in a covered box they look new and fresh just like they were just printed.

I do think this is innate with some people. I remember as a very little girl seeing a dollar bill on the floor on the way out of a grocery store. I did not pick it up since it was not mine but watched someone behind me scoop it up and I knew it was not their money. Now if it was $20 or more I would turn it in to see if the owner could be found. I picked up a few pick 3 tickets off the ground recently that I assumed someone had dropped. Anything thowed on the ground in East Tennessee has tobaccy juice spit on it right quick.

It's kind of a way to test yer aim, when you see something thowed on the ground you spit a big ol' wad o' tobaccy juice on it.

On a personal level, I don't cotton to gettin' other folks tobaccy juice on my hands.

So no, I don't pick 'em up.

LOL I ain't gonna lie to ya....I'll pick it up and I'll keep it if the owner isn't standing right there to claim it....I'll make it mine....Also here in NC your losing tickets (scratchers and draw tickets) can be turned in for points to enter 2nd chance drawings....so not to many folks throw their tickets away here...cause the losers may in fact add up to be winners

I was walking down the street once and saw 3 or 4 tickets strung out along there like they had fallen out of someone's pocket while they were riding a bike or something.

So I get them home and they're all winners, worth around $25 total. I was thinking, I should find the owner. But really is $25 worth trying to screen out the scammers?

So I took them to the store and the clerk tells me they've already been cashed.

* l have not. But looking down at all those discarded tickets in the waste basket could make one wonder..what if- am l right or am l right
