I think that was the episode where the plumbing was broke on the Enterprise and Spock was horrified when he entered the Executive Restroom and saw the Captain's Log.

The book was probably based on the original series season 2 episode A Taste of Armageddon . There was no mention of a lottery however. If you were in the projected zone of destruction based on computer simulated attack you were to report to a casualty station to be vaporized.

It was actually one of the better OS episodes and a nice little morality play on the horrors of war.

I appreciate your replies. I just think the Lotteries are growing at incredible size and scope, I wonder where it will end up. Will it stop at $1B ? Will they cap the prizes and socialize the event ?

Once our dollar collapses ,lotteries will be just a memory.Get it while you can no matter how small the jp is lol

Its amazing how people here and outside the US love the game, despite of its imperfections and hints of corruption. I just wonder where the future lies.

That lottery was never designed to thin out the herd ; just made war less messy than the real thing. Kirk's solution was to destroy the war computers making real war a necessity or giving peace a chance.

Hunger Games was another example of a lottery nobody wanted to win and so is the draft lotteries in the 1970s.

As a child I read a Star Trek book where they strayed upon a planet where everyone was young, healthy and happy despite being at war with a neighboring planet. They found out later that computers were waging the war for them. Projected casualties were computed and a lottery drawn on the victims. When you get drawn, you report to the central office where your being a casualty is finalized.

Would this be a solution to our planets ills ? How do you feel about this kind of lottery ? Will we ever
