Everyone has to buy sundry items somewhere and for most people it is Wal-Mart or Target. Where would you suggest people buy sunscreen, paper products or bandaids? As far as leftovers in a restaurant I am a small person and only eat half of what is served. I almost always take it home with me, I am not doing this to be cheap but because I really and truly want to eat the rest of it but I can't eat it at one time. She bought her winning ticket at a Publix grocery store and maybe to her grocery shopping at Wal Mart is a step up in class. Maybe her son is considering buying his next used car at a dealership used car lot rather than buying one from a Buy here, pay here car lot.

I believe most people completely misinterpreted the topic. I don't believe anyone would continue to use Wal-Mart as their sole, one-stop-shop for all things as there are better quality offerings for a given product elsewhere. However, for the most part, there's absolutely nothing wrong with shopping at the Wally for most things at a given time. In all honesty, the store carries lots of the same products as other mainstream stores at a lower price.

l used the term if because l did not want to imply that people DID visit those stores, knowing full well that some will not be seen dead in them.My question was based on choice. Perhaps a course in English will serve a purpose in your case- or not.

I would'nt stop going to the Dollar Tree. I'm amazed at what they have and don't see how a can of corn could be better somewhere else. They even had redneck Dukes Mayo.

Over here in the UK we have asda which is owned by wal mart so I would still shop in asda and other shops like the 99p store, pound world, pound shop, pound stretcher and so on regardless of my wealth, why should I spend more for the same thing or things, I can get cheaper elsewhere.

Walmart's cheaply made, Made in China products are for people who have never known any better.

You get exactly what you pay for.

I know I could get 4 or 5 pairs of boots from Walmart for what I pay for a pair of Redwings. But my Redwings will last longer than those 4 or 5 pairs of Made in China boots combined. And they'll fit better and be way more comfortable too.

I won't buy cheap junk.

Just won't do it.

I wouldn't stop at all. Just because I'd have more money to spend on clothes and other things doesn't mean I need to change suppliers...especially if I'm already happy with what I'm getting there. Wal-Mart carries lots of quality, name brand products and they're not all cheap either. As another poster already said, you can visit those branches located in more upscale parts of town, and they actually carry different and better lines of products than those in less desirable locations.

I actually stopped in at the Wal-Mart by my father's house last night which is in a different City (he really lives in the burbs but they're incorporated so they get the city title) and it actually was pretty clean. I hadn't ever stopped in the store close to his house, and was impressed with how nice it was.

I've noticed that with Winn Dixie. All of the ones in the city I live in are pretty dingy, but once you get to the suburbs they re not so bad.

I wouldn't stop shopping anywhere I shop at now.

I would actually likely start shopping at thrift stores as sort of a hobby, going around the state sort of as a road trip, fishing trip and to also see what cool things I could find in smaller town shops.

Me too. I have so many bedspreads and comforters from there that I could open a B B. All of their products are so well designed. I have an orange handbag from there and I swear that more than 10 people this week told me how much they like it. When my first book came out, all I cared was that Target carried it and they picked it up after a couple of months (I did not care about all the other places that sell it...lol). To me that was the biggest thrill. Still is

It depends on the Walmart. In the same city a few miles apart you can have a huge, very brightly lit, very clean, very tidy, very orderly Walmart and a few miles down the road you can have the dark, dingy, dirty Walmart.

I found the same to be true with Kroger and Winn Dixie. Some chains are just like that.

But yeah, some things you need to go up a notch and get from Target or Burlington instead. Costs are lower but so is material and workmanship.

I've never been to a thrift store, but I imagine I doubt I can find stuff there I can't find on eBay, Etsy, Artfire or Ruby Lane. All without ever having to leave the house.

However, if price was no option, then it will always boil down to convenience. I am almost always more willing to pay more for convenience than pay less and be inconvenienced. Which store is closest, which is less trafficky, can I get the item delivered instead.

I love thrift store shopping, flea markets, eBay... Wal-Mart not so much.

I don't know about other Wal-Marts since it isn't usually on my places to visit when I'm traveling but the ones here are unkept, dirty, and have cheaply made products that rarely last. I've also noticed quite a few expired products in the grocery section left on the shelf.

Sometimes you can find some really neat antiques at certain thrift stores though.

I am always looking for a hidden treasure at these stores. There is this kind of high end Salvation army in my area and they have a special room of ceramics and glass and old books and collectibles. Amazing stuff. And I always check out the paintings looking for that Picasso. I would never give up my 2-3 visits a year here. It is an adventure. And most of the people visiting this store are at least middle class and well employed (most of the cars are not cheap). A bargain is a bargain.
