Interesting. For some reason I thought all states had specific times when lottery sales begin and end each day. Daily sales here begin as early as 600AM while end time is always 730PM, which allows merchants and the lottery to complete a daily tally and reset. The state and multistate drawings always occur after the cutoff, so the earliest we can redeem winning tickets at stores is the following morning.

In many states final results (number of winners and the amount to be paid out) aren't known and posted until two to three hours after the drawings and they will state on their websites tickets can't be redeemed for a period of time after the drawings

If I have winning tickets I redeem them when I go buy my next batch of tickets. Which is usually a couple of days later.

I matched the Powerball for Saturday night's draw. I tried to redeem my ticket on the same night but the ticket reader said error. I like to get my new tickets as soon as I learn the jackpot rolled. I feel I get my money's worth that way, cause I can gaze longingly at the ticket during the week and think to myself is this the winning ticket I have in my hand

I tried to redeem my ticket one hour after the drawing and it was rejected. I had to wait until the next day to cash it.
