Louisiana has done raffles in past years and I've played as both an individual and member of a group. Never won anything, but there's always hope. I like the raffles and if Louisiana does one this year, I'll pay $10 for a ticket, or two.

I know a few people who buy heaps of the Connectcut raffles yet after all this time, I know no one including myself who has even got the 100 dollar prize that are so abundant.

It doesn't sit well with me actually and I prolly won't play it in the future.

I liked the Massachusetts lottery raffle when it was the $10 million raffle for the new years drawing back in 2012. Even though the tickets were $20, I liked that they had set prizes. 1 7 million winner, 1 1 million winner, 20 $50,000 winners and 1,000 $1,000 winners. There were much more chances to win. And I liked having that big $7,000,000 prize because almost all other state lotteries top prize was $1,000,000.

I like the game. It plays twice a day, seven days a week and you can play for a quarter, half buck or a dollar for 25k, 50k or 100k on a 5/34 game with odds of 1 in 278,256 for the jackpot.

And it's a real ball drawing, no fake computer hocus-pocus, 3 Card Monty style drawings like Tennessee.

I bought 3 VA cash 5 tickets tonight..my own numbers. I keep hearing from everyone how great it is. The few times I have played, I got 0 numbers but a number set beginning with 12 was calling my name.

That's what I'm talkin' about.

And the people at the Virginia Lottery are always nice and helpful and professional when you talk to them on the phone.

Their state cops suck though, always hidin' in the weeds on the highway, won't give you a break for nothin' and radar detectors are illegal there, unless you know how to hide them good, heh,heh,heh,heh,heh...

Their raffles are good though and their Cash5 is a real ball drawing, which I like and I never miss a drawing.... [ More ]

The top prize of $1,000,000 in raffles is 1:125,000 if they are selling only 500,000 tickets with 4 tickets getting picked for $1M. Those odds are many times better than even Cash 5 (5/35). I find those odds irresitable. And raffles pay lumpsum so only taxes get deducted.

True. I don't even buy $10 scratch tickets but the overall odds of hitting something in PA VA (usually a min of $100) in raffles are way much better than other games.

It was ok when it started out as one raffle here in illinois but now they have 3 in a year. I'm already out aboit 200 hundred bucks this year in raffles so I think my raffle playing days are up.

Not a fan of the raffles, even in VA. $20 is too much. Rather play a number of pick 6 games or pick 5. Although I do buy raffle tickets from charities quite often.

Most of the raffles are 625,000 $20 tickets and $6.25 million is divided by the players. It's usually four $1 milllion winners and several other smaller prize winners. In some states the tickets are sold out in less than two weeks and in some states the drawing date is extended because of lack of sales. In the passed I know the Ohio Lottery held their raffle on the announced date even though not all the tickets were sold and the advertized prizes were still the same.

We have had two 50/50 raffle in MA so far. One that was drawn in new years eve of 2013 and another one that was drawn the week of July 4. Even though the tickets were only $10, I didn't bother getting one. In my personal opinion, raffles should be easier to win than both scratch tickets and the numbers games. It is my hope that MA will borrow a leaf from PA VA lottery when it comes to raffles.

Two years ago Kentucky ran a winner-take-all 50/50 raffle and one player won $145,000. The tickets were $10 and low sales is probably why they never ran another raffle. Considering the number of raffles tickets they sell in other states with multiple secondary prizes and most have at least four $1 million winners, it's a fair $20 bet IMO. Makes a nice stocking stuffer at Christmas too.

Lol as long as your neighbors keep their distance then you'll be fine...

If I drove to PA for the sole purpose of picking up the $100, of which only $40 is profit then it would be a loss making venture. I'm betting my mailman will be reliable on this.

I see your points, too.

There's a term in gambling called relative to the buy in, and along those lines a raffle top prize couldn't touch a lottery jackpot.

Maybr some state will get really innovative and conduct a raffle where there's options of buying from $1 to $10 or $20 worth........and each dollar would win so much. But that's not really good for hyping a raffle.

I see your point in terms of bang for buck and hard to argue from that perspective, but...

Lotto (6 #'s) is 1 in 20.3 million odds for a shot a generally several million...

Little lotto (5 #'s) is approx. 1 in 575,000 odds and rarely ever get JP's beyond 500-600K (although lately with 2x draws the pot has gotten larger faster)

Raffle is approx. 1 in 500,000 odds for a shot at a million

Raffle odds are you're best shot at winning any significant cash prize in the lottery...

I used to love raffles. Then I spent $50 - $150 each year for 5 years or so and didn't win a thing. Now I don't love raffles so much any more. Now I buy one ticket and that's it.

Jusy my $.02 and it won't be popular, but in Pick 6 or 5 + 1 jackpot games $1 or $2 could win multi millions, that's the big draw of the games.

So let's say in a state rafle $10 or $20 wins $1 million.

And let's use the current MM jackpot of $61 M.

If there's a MM winner, that $1 won $61 M.

The raffle winner, let's say a $20 raffle, each dollar won $50,000. Not quite the same bang for the buck.

I like that a lot. PB or MM should try that idea to stimulate sales. 1M GBP = $ 1.53M! When Camelot Group start selling EuroMillions tickets online directly (no agents) to overseas subscribers I will be buying some of those. I would hope the US government would also allow us.

VA and PA have the best raffles. 4 millionaires are created with only 500,000 tickets sold. Best odds.

MA has a raffle called Super 50/50 Raffle. Its not worth even knowing about it.

When you buy a EuroMillions ticket for 2 GBP you get a line of numbers and a raffle number at the bottom and every draw someone wins 1M it's pretty cool. And around Christmas and other special times they host special raffles like 25 1M GBP winners for stuff like that it's cool I like em.

I personally love Raffles that are run by lottery commissions. Usually the raffle price is higher ($10 or $20 a ticket) but the odds of winning are much higher than even Cash 5 games. I bought 3 PA Millionaire Raffle tickets when I vacationed there in May. The draw is July 6, 2013. The odds of winning $1M are 1:125,000 and even better for the many small prizes. I would have bought the Illinois ones if it were possible to buy online directly from the Illinois lottery commission. Thoughts
