Looking over the responses going back to the beginning- l think many are under the illusion that the check book is opened and wholesale check writing is in force.Wrong.

First off, not everyone is going to experience a disaster, second of those who do, a reasonable amount of $10- $15k should be enough to get one reasonably on their feet. That was the original idea, still is.

I do not share winnings. If I want to give to charity then I start my own, so I know exactly where the money is going and how it is being used. I would rather invest in people, i.e. start a company that creates jobs or provide a valuable product/service. If I ever hit it big I probably wouldn't tell my family at first.

One thing I would consider doing and that is buying a premium membership for some of the members. Over the years several members whom I never corresponded with did that for me and it was greatly appreciated. In that scenario, why help out just the one person just because he frequents the same forum? If I were to help any of those people I would help all of them with a donation to the Red Cross or similar local (to them) organization.

And if anyone here did have an issue specific to them and I did choose to help, I doubt it would be something I just threw money at, but would rather help in other ways.
