Well if somebody in front of me dropped alot of money I'd want to keep it since I am unemployed; when you feel broke..

I have found money in different places and thank God because I needed it to buy food realistically..

Alot of people will never admit that they'd be tempted to keep the money if they are down and out..

while I am thinking, I see somebody else bend down and pick it up and take it and then walk out the store, what would I do then? Would I be upset that I just thought, and did not take it myself? And what if the person picking it up was the priest with the lost collection plate?

What if the 100 dollar bill was counterfeit? This is all very hypothetical.

Simple solution....ignore it and leave it on the floor, and have the person who dropped it, pick it up. If you are not very sure, he/she dropped it, then absolve yourself completely of the situation, by ignoring the money, and let somebody else worry about it. No confusion there.

About 20 years ago I was in line at an ATM, the women in front of me did her transaction and then went inside the bank.

I w/drew $100 but the machine gave me $120 one of the bills came out kinda folded in to an S shape and my receipt said $100

I went in to the bank and asked if she was just at the ATM, I think I scared her, asked her to count the $ she just got... yep she was $20 short

You can understand people being scared in that situation... very unusual.

It wouldn't matter where it happened, while buying lottery tickets or not, I'd tell the person as I'd want the same courtesy for myself. Only time I've pocketed money I found on the ground is when there'd be no chance of finding the owner. Found $2 a few months ago, by the side of the road, in front of a big field. Finders keepers in that case.

A similar scenario was presented to me recently. There was a gentleman waiting at the counter when I got in line behind him it was then that I noticed a wad of crumpled up bills on the floor. I informed him that he dropped something and he proceeded to pick it up and put it in his pocket then left the store...without any acknowledgment.

A simple thank you would have been nice but it wasn't expected.
