I'll never be in another lottery pool again, unless I decide to invite a couple people into my current system. As someone said, too many cheapskates just throwing in a couple bucks, will never do any work for the pool, and are often late paying, plus the hassle of contracts, and nevermind the even larger hassle if you win on your own and some members of your pool decide to piggyback on your winnings by suing you.

The following individuals agree to join a lottery pool for the Mega Millions drawing on 12/13/13.

I run my office pool.

Upsides:

I get to buy $100 worth of tickets for major jackpots, instead of $5.

If I do win, any fame from winning will also be split 20 ways, so it will be a little easier to hide.

Many of my friends will have a boatload of money, so I can hangout with them and do nice things, without having to feel like I have to pay for everything, because I am the rich one.

ive ran my family pool for as long, similar story. only now i have it streamlined. i told them all that once we win enough to cover the purchase price with interest from the bank account they wonth have to send me anymore money. here 15 years latter we are further away from that goal than when we started.

I have a question. I am currently on vacation in a different state and joined a pool with two friends. We purchased a ticket with 5-draws and won $7 on the 1st draw. We still have 4 more draws on the ticket so do I have to wait until the final draw before claiming?

We will be flying back home this weekend so I was just curious.

I run the pool at work. We have a filing cabinet that every one can access. I send out an email to everyone in the place that tell them when the next drawing is, what amount the JP is at, and what time I will be getting the tickets. It is up to them to put their money in the envelope before I get the tickets.

I've been doing it for almost 2 years. I've never had any money come up missing. The most we've won is $7.

I ran one years ago, when I was still working.

I kept a list of the 20 numbers we played back then. Then, the lotto forms changed a bit.

I suspect to keep the constant or consistent players off track.

Anyway, I accum'd 20 numbers during the early days of the pool. And when we had 20,

we played those 20 from then on.

I had a contract on the paper I'd lay out on the table, on the morning of the lotto. I typed

I ran the pool at my last company. I was drafted as the organized person when the prior organizer left. It was a little bit of a headache, but everyone was good about paying on time.

I do not run a pool at my current company and I'm not going to suggest one. We've got a few serious Mormons in the upper management. Since the LDS frowns on gambling...

I think you are only someone who is afraid to not get any money if the pool at your job actually wins.

and the rules must be very clear.

I think the occasional type is better B/C it's clear who is a member and who is NOT.

Lottery pools attract cheapskates like thoses who want to cover a lot of chances for winning for only a dollar. They were in the work pools trying to convince everyone in the pool if they won a jackpot on their own then they were obligated to share with everyone in the pool since they had shared the cost of the pool with them. Before I retired I was a member of a pool at work and we came with in one number of winning the state lottery three times.

Each time we matched 5of6 was a problem of who would collect the prize and pay the taxes at the end of the year because no taxes was taken out of prizes less than $5K and since we all was working a lot of over time who ever got stuck with the taxes was going to be in the 30%+ bracket.

I say join the pool. You have to increase your chances of winning even if it is with more people. The pot cashout now is $184,000,000 million, say there is 10 people in the pool = mmmmm 16 million, to buy more tickets on your own. ($184 mil x 8.75% = 16,100,000 mil., - 184 mil = 167,900,000 / 10 = $16,790,000 each), not bad for a days work.

Positive: winners get the share equally, more people happy is a great thing

Positive: luck may struck better with pool play than single

Minus: if win just one million, the bigger the pool size the more people swim (smaller lum sum).

Minus: going through hassle of getting sued, or difficulty in getting the share when judges decided to withhold the pot.

I vote yes, however.

I ran one once years and years ago with about 15 people in it and it wasn't worth the hassle.

A signed contract with each player would have made things easier.

Years ago I only played my own numbers and never had anything to do with the office lottery pool. Then one weekend the jackpot was huge and I was invited to join the office pool, and I did because I didn't want to be the only one not dancing around Monday morning if they had won. What do you see as a plus or minus?

Personally: There is no way l would join unless l had a gun pointed to my head.

Playing solo relieves one of the hassle of worrying who else is gonna complain about who knows what.Some may want the opportunity of giving a press conference, which l am totally against- and the list goes on.
