I would buy a working ranch with a few hundred acres In Arizona

1) I dont have to worry Neighbors, family, or friends

2) I wont get money questions, my financial team will be taking care of donations and such

3) I have access to Vegas and Los Angeles

4) The ranch would make money so I wont blow all my money

Quite sad actually. Shows that some jackpot winners can end up neither here nor there - not part of the wealthy class, and too rich for their old friends. I'd rather try to work at keeping my old friends as much as possible because we have some great people for friends. Not many, but good quality people. It would be sad to lose any of them.

However, in the example above, I would have thought they would have had a feeling for how their neighbors felt about them, before inviting them to a party... [ More ]

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I thought the one about the July 4th party they intended to throw was very telling ....they had moved to a wealthy neighborhood, invited all their neighbors, and no one showed up because they hadn't earned the money.

We answer for our impulse purchases.

After we won the lottery, we bought an eight-bedroom, seven-bath, 10,000-square-foot mansion because we could, and it sounded amazing. Well, now we re selling the eight-bedroom, seven-bath ?mansion because it s impractical for a family of four.

Unless you have 6 kids or a lot of family living with you, I can't understand having more bedrooms than you actually need, plus one, or maybe two at most, guest bedrooms. Better yet, have a guest cottage out... [ More ]

I think most of those points (the ones from Readers' Digest) were either stupid, or redundant.

I didn't even understand (nor do I care to) the one about the friend's tax records.

1. CASH OR ANUITY? NO QUESTION.

No annuity. Too much chance to blow your cover over the years.

2. DENY LOTTO WINNER RECOGNITION STAY ANONYMOUS ASSUME OTHER IDENTITY

Just move to a different place, change and assume another identity, and make new friends.... [ More ]

My favorite was:

Don't donate all at once.

If you want to give a charity a big sum of money, never give it all at once. It s better to donate $100,000 a year for ten years so you can retain some control and make sure the cash is being spent wisely.

I had always thought that if I won a lot of money, I'd take all the money I wanted to donate, put it into something like an Index Fund, then send my donation from the interest that was earned every year. That way, I always had money I could... [ More ]
