I kind of think $1 Million for the store is a bit much. CA is among the highest retailer jackpot bonus at 0.5% up to $1,000,000. Many other states cap it at $10,000. That money they pay for retailer jackpot bonus is money that could go back into better payouts on games for players.

Cali is several years behind the more mature lotteries on the east coast. Look how long it took us to get $10 Scratchers, and just this year got a $20 Scratcher. We're also slightly behind the big ones on total pay... [ More ]

Store owners should get maybe a 2 year subscription to the Jelly of the Month Club for selling a winning jackpot ticket.

They're already getting paid for selling tickets and it ain't like it's hard to find somebody to do it.

A million dollar bonus for doing your job?

That's ridiculous, give it to the people who put that money in there by buying the tickets.

There are probably lots of questions just like yours many other players would like to ask too and that's why there is a small army of reporters camped outside her home. We can't have it both ways, we either respect the winners privacy or require every winner to answer any and all questions.

Well I'm glad I live in a state where you can remain anonymous. Perhaps Mrs. did have a plan before coming forward...we don't know if she and her family are stiil even in the area?????? I agree that digging through public records and reporting on things that happened 20 years ago is a low blow. As Jon D said earlier, once they get your name that's probably one of the first things they do, is search through public records.

She could have waited and formed a Trust to claim the prize instead of in person, and let the lawyer have his face all over the news instead of hers and her family's. He'd love the free publicity.

Does that mean people will never find out who you are? Maybe not, but it significantly reduces your exposure. By the time several weeks have passed, the news and tabloids will be on to the next story and the next lottery winner will be upon us.

It was probably because of how huge the jackpot prize was. A few lotto winners from this year who won under $300 million didn t do a press conference and there was hardly any news about them. She made the mistake of deleting her facbook account too late and now those pictures were all over the news. I saw them on NBC, ABC, Fox 5.

The home where Ira Curry currently resides is valued at 155k. She bought the house back in 2003 and paid $275k. I don't think she will be worried about the depreciation of this house when she sells it.

I thought it was odd that the media considered her neighborhood upper middle class as most of the homes are 2300-2700 Sq. Ft.

I think the best thing she could have done is got her affairs in order first.. I would have left my place first and moved into a hotel before I came forward.. Now these wackos know where she live and what car she drives and who her children are. Someone should have told her coming forward this fast may have been a mistake.. Ira is a beautiful lady with a beautiful smile. I am so happy for her and her family. There are so many negative people in the world today but I am sure she is not paying any attention to the haters. Having a thankful, generous, and caring spirit always brings blessings. Just looking at her picture I can see that she has this spirit in abundance, it radiates even from the picture .

I'm actually surprised when people who've won huge jackpots can actually remain anonymous. You would think that in this day and age, if someone really wanted to, they could find out who the Jackpot winner is. Also, If you win for example 100 million dollars, it would be kind of hard to hide that fact. I mean wouldn't your friends notice something different when the jackpot winner has been announced in your city and you suddenly quit your job and go into hiding?
