That's why you get a house where the rooms have bathrooms connected to them. Then just lock the door from the outside.

My relatives aren't like that, though. They typically mind their own business so no real issue.

The limitations of the 2000 square foot house I've got now is that the bathrooms, spare bedrooms, and laundry room could be a bit bigger, and my office is just half of a spare bedroom. Like most houses it could use a bit more closet space, too. Maybe a separate media room, but for me that would just mean perhaps 200 SF with a couple of good recliners a reasonable distance from speakers and about a 40 TV. Based on that, I doubt I'd go much over 3000 SF, not including the attached garage. A garage... [ More ]

Point blank answer: There is no such thing as too much funds. With more charities and people needing a leg up, I'm sure there are ways to wisely invest in communities.

As to the necessities, its simple. A place that I can manuever thru when I age, that is secure and close to community aides ( hospital, fire co, ambulance, market). You get the idea. Food clothing, shelter...the basics.

despite the size of the lottery winnings to buy a new house, the obvious question seems to be what do we really need, and why should we continue to allow drawings to be half a billion dollars, when most if not all of us do not need more than 1 million or even less to easily live and thrive quite well.

The size of a half million dollar home could be just enough for most of us. The rest invested to sustain a lifestyle of independence.

I never want a house too big for the relatives to consider renting a room at the local Days Inn or Holiday Inn when visiting. My relatives like to sneak around looking into all the rooms for personal stuff that's none of the business and some of them even have sticky fingers.

3-4 bedroom home and around 4,000 sqare feet max.

I'd like a house I can grow into and still have room for guests. Plus I could find things to fill rooms, like maybe a sports room and another could be a media/gaming room. It would be nice to have that stuff separate from the rest of the house.

Of course, I could go for a 1-2 bedroom, 2,000 square foot home if it was perfect design.

Small house. Huge lot.

House would be really well built.

Bedrooms would have walk in closets with washers and dryers in each closet.

Bathroom would have really nice shower and wet and dry heat rooms and a whirlpool. Linen room would have washer and dryer.

Would try to keep it to 2400 sq feet.

A 3500 sq ft house would be nice, open concept. The bigger the house the more cleaning. No, no housekeeper for me. What I would want is acreage with horse fencing secure gates, located where there is no snow. I amnot asking for much lol.

Not talking about cash LOL. I subscribe to the old saying too much is never enough on that front. No Im talking about your dwelling. How big a house is too big a house. Would you want a McMansion, a palace, or just a simple cookie-cutter house. Me Im not married and no kids, so anything over 3,000sq ft would be too big for me, and I dont want alot of rooms anyways, cause visitors may never leave then LOL. So what about you all that want to answer, How big is too big for you
