In Texas, any property owned prior to marriage would remain the owner's property in case of divorce, however I believe liquid assets are a different matter and would be split 50-50 (since Texas is a community property state) I voted staying single but yes, IF I got married, a pre-nup would be mandatory, particularly involving that much cash.

If both of you have tons of assets going in, then a pre-nup is a smart BUSINESS decision. If not, then one should reevaluate the idea of what marriage is. Don't marry if you don't have all of those internal/spiritual components in check. Marriage (and children) has become such a hobby these days.

This is a fantastic question. I went to a Catholic school and the priest always said that pre-nups were a sin because marriage is a sacred bond and a prenup means you're planning ahead of time for a divorce. I get what he was saying but on the flipside doesn't a person signing a prenup prove that he or she isn't after the money and is in it for love?
