A long time ago, my mom was visiting with my dad's friend's wife; the woman had dropped out of school before the sixth grade and could barely read or write. She and my mom were talking about the woman's son getting a girl in trouble and having to marry her. The woman was placing most of the blame on her son's girlfriend but then shook her head and said Well, it takes two to tangle.

The highs and low of expecting a life changing win eventually takes it toll on many.

I play occasionally but only for entertainment...no wild expectations.

Most know it's unlikely they will win a jackpot, but not impossible. There are some so obsessed with winning they can't go a week without discussing spending winnings they will probably never see. I wonder how may of them are treated for depression after years of failure

Players are looking for one or two of the golden tickets out of millions every drawing, but most drawings have no golden tickets. Basically players face two sets of odds; the odds of any ticket winning and the odds of their tickets winning.

Winning the lottery is a certainty given enough time. But humans do not have enough time and croak first before they win. The trick is winning EARLY, well before your time.

I know this full well, and only play because of the WTF factor. Just play because, WTF, take a chance, what have you got to lose, a few bucks? Small price to pay for a bit of entertainment and to be in it to win it.

99.5% of the people play knowing they probably won't win, but they feel it's possible. The ones that scary me are some of the remaining 5%. They truly believe they will win as long as they stay positive. And we all know they all can't win.

It's either a delusion or insanity.
