Cynthia Stafford's system is similiar to Thrifty's I'll play some day strategy .

Lustig is promoting his book and made himself accessible to any show that wanted discuss the MM jackpot. I don't see the logic behind never play quick picks and neither did Robin Roberts.

Looked like the size of a $2 ticket. I don't know exactly what game or state, so this is just ballpark:

You can expect hits around 1 in 5 overall, and about 55-60% return through 100 plays.

They got 17 winners out of 125 (maybe they overlooked some) or only 1 in 7.35 hits.(17 out of 125...that is crazy...) And only had 1 mid-tier prize over $20.(didn't hear the amount) So I'd guess 16 prizes with $5 average and 1 $30? for the 17th, a little less than 50% return. About as expected or worse... [ More ]

OK, so you were lucky and won a lot more than most of us will ever win, you have a right to the microphone. For most, only about 15 minutes. Others big winners or those who parlayed their winnings into successful business can speak longer.

It isn't what percentage of winners are won with SP or QP. Since QP's account for more twice as many tickets as SP, wins with QP would out number wins with SP even if SP was twice as likely to result in winning.

What matters is the percentage of each type that result in winning. Of course that percentage is essentially the same.

I think that's a good way to do it. I run a lottery pool at my office and we mix numbers we picked with quick picks. We went through a long streak in which we were winning lower tier prizes on every 2 week cycle, but lately we've been in a slump.

What I'm trying to do is determine if playing the same set of numbers every drawing or a different quick pick will increase the chance of matching any numbers in the game and I'm finding if just buying one or two tickets, it probably doesn't matte... [ More ]

Well if it isn't the snake oil salesman we mentioned recently. Listen bud, if your system worked you'd be able to tell us how much you've spent on tickets to get those wins. That's pivotal in validating your claim. If you spend $5 a month and rack up multiple wins that would be impressive. If you're spending $50,000/month on tickets, then it's simply the law of probability and nothing to do with a 'formula' you supposedly created.

Duplicate combos will always be around with random numbers in drawings. But there is no set percentage, as the percentage of duplicates increases along with ticket sales. It could start out small, just a few percent. But then as the jackpot grows and sales increase, duplicates can approach 50% or more for really large jackpots.

From my own little study, I would agree, if only buying one ticket. I do think that if someone is going to buy many tickets, perhaps picking numbers is better. I say this because sometimes at work when the jackpots get high, we have an employee who runs a pool and buys many tickets, sometimes 20 or more. If I am in a hurry I get a quick pick. But most of the time I like to play my own numbers, it's part of the fun. No wonder so many win with quick picks because most of the players use them I would say. I think that maybe 5 to 10 percent of the lottery players pick their own number is my guess. Out of many I have seen buying tickets I have only seen one person filling out his own numbers.

After having run 100's of millions (and I do mean 100's of millions) of simulated draws I can say it doesn't matter if you play quick picks or your own numbers, over the long run both will hit the jackpot about the same amount of times.

The down side of playing your own numbers (if you are using birthday's, anniversaies, age, fortune cookie etc) is that there is likely one or more OTHER players playing the same numbers.

Both quick picks and self picked numbers have equal probability of winning. The only difference is quick picks are easier to do and less time consuming. It would take me less than 1 minute to go into a store and get 10 lines of tonight's PB. If I had to fill out a play slip for the same 10 lines then the process lasts double the time. I've always been curious about this view so I decided to do a little research of my own. Basically, I started tracking the success of my own Lotto playing. Basically, I play 2 sets of numbers for every drawing, one set of hand picked numbers and one quick pick. Louisiana Lotto is 6/40, minimum match of 3 balls to win a prize.
