Doesn't matter how witty and enthralling Judge Judy is, she still wouldn't be rolling in the dough if there weren't people suing each other by the thousands. Just as divorce court wouldn't be in existence if people didn't want to get divorced, and Maury wouldn't have been so popular if people knew who impregnated them. Never loan money you expect to get back. Only loan what you're okay with never seeing again. If you can't afford to lose it for good, don't loan it out. If people actually repaid loans of their own accord Judge Judy wouldn't have just finished building a 40,000sf house.

I would give gifts meaning give and not expect anything in return or being paid back. However, it would be my choice to whom and how much. My circle of true friends is small as is my family. Not all gifts would be cash and any giving would be dependent upon my mood lol.

With a substantial win (100 Million plus) I would give my few real friends a years worth of their current salary up front (to give them the opportunity to quit their jobs if they were unhappy and chose to do so) and then I would fund a trust for them (2-5 million each) where they could only touch 20% of the principal every 3-5 years or so but would get income yearly from the trust and they could help direct how it was invested.

I think it's guaranteed that you would lose some friends if you won a large jackpot. Some might just feel like you're too posh for them now and drift away. Others would expect you share your lucky windfall with them (since you didn't earn it), and if you don't for whatever reason (even really good reasons), that would at least strain the friendship, if not end it totally.

Nice knowing you think it a good question MrC- it dawned on me that should one win, are they prepared beforehand on the possibility of being put in that situation? One can always say don't call me, l will call you - however we talking about friends and l am sure there have been cases where so called friends have become enemies simply because the lottery winner has not complied with their wishes or demands.

This is a good question as I've wondered how others here felt. I'd definitely not be a gift that keeps on giving. That's a dangerous precedent to put yourself in, as we have seen from some past winners.

It depends on the jackpot, but let's say it's a sizable one; I'm big on education, so I'd like to help out with college education for my family and close friends' children without being asked.

No, I would not be the gift that keeps on giving , aka human ATM because as we've seen in the past, these are the types of jackpot winners who end up with nothing in the end.

Any money you do borrow out would have to be considered a gift, not a loan because in normal situations, lending money to friends often doesn't end well (they don't pay you back), so why would they pay you back knowing you've got a whack of money in the bank
