I've seen enough posts from people who haven't started businesses but want to start one with lottery winnings, or who want to buy a 15 or 25 thousand square foot house to be pretty sure that there are plenty of people here who would make bad decisions about how to spend the money.

Most will make bad decisions ,I think most of us are commiting the historian's fallacy.

None of us have won a major jackpot , but we are sure we would have made better decisions but we are only claiming it because we know what that they did wrong , the results and the better alternative after the fact. Is easy to pick a winning team after the game has ended.

Just watch those rescue shows like Hotel/Restaurant Impossible, Hotel Hell, Kitchen Nightmares, and CNBC's The Profit to see that even good-intentioned people, with sums of money most families dream of, run businesses into the ground - most of them fail after the episodes too. Some people just have problematic character flaws or have no idea what they are doing.

Now picture a winner that quits his job to pursue an interest like that and you can see the potential for failure.

The site has 153,026 members currently, so it's hard to say that most of them would do better, since a large portion probably aren't regulars. So I'll agree that I think most regulars here would spend their jackpot more wisely and react better to a win than the general public.

I think for the most part- yes. This forum has afforded all of us a front row seat into the lives of lottery winner's who had won a ton of cash only to lose it all.l think that is a sobering thought.

There will of course be those money morons who think their well will never dry up just as long as they spending and making their friends happy.

However l see a lot of savvy guys gals here who will avoid that financial graveyard at all costs.

The majority of bond funds have badly lagged the returns of the overall market(Russell,NASDAQ and S P) for the previous 5 years. Anyone seeking higher returns would have done much better having exposure in the stock market. I believe overall a larger percentage of LP forum members would make wiser financial decisions WHEN compared to the general public but that is where the advantage ends. It seems many LP members lack any financial background and yet feel more than capable of handling a large windfall.

Without seeking any kind of legal and financial advice, I think only 15-20% of forum members would make it fine on their own.

People always say one thing but do another, and then there are those who may want or will actually invest wisely or think they are then get swindled. You can never know for sure how things are going to turn out.
