The business will be taken care of and get their cut by the lottery for the winning ticket, but a clerk who always treats me well and provides me a service beyond their job will be remembered by me if i am a lottery winner. They don't have to have a genuine smile on their face or even say a thoughtful word to me just because they work there. I went I cash in a winner tonight and the clerk made some comments like he expected me to give him a piece.

The slot techs in casinos are more subtle, but they make sure by breaking the last hundred into smaller denominations, the winner has $ONEs and $5s for a tip.

There are books on proper tipping etiquette, but I think they were written by someone working for tips. If you you think they deserve a tip, tip them and you decide how much it's worth to you.

I buy most of my tickets at a local convience store not far from my house. I'll only cash in $50 or under at the same store I buy the tickets at. Anything over $50 I cash them in at one of the major grocery stores. The young kids working behind the glass at the grocery store could care less about any kind of tip ect. I once had the owner of a store (he also owns 2 other stores) tell me to remember him if I win.

It was hard not to laugh.

He doesn't realize that I have set, established protocols already in place for tipping in the event of a major jackpot win.

Part of the protocol is that the person who regularly sells me my tickets wears Daisy-Dukes and calls me Darlin' everytime I come in for tickets.

I buy my ticket at different places so I wouldn't even remember the clerk who sold me the ticket. I have never won more than $10 and usually end up cashing my ticket at a different place so I find no reason to tip. If I won a major prize than I would consider tipping if I remember the clerk and whether or not they were nice.

I just love these people who expect to get tipped for doing their jobs. Unless this clerk is someone who provided you with exceptional service, do not get guilted into giving him a cent.

If the win is large enough and you're feeling generous, then ok. But the minute he acts as if he's entitled to any part of it is the minute any thought of generosity should go right out the window.

First of all, the clerk should not be making comments like he expects to be tipped. If the clerk did it to me, I would tell the clerk Play the Mega Ball # 8 in the next Mega Millions drawing. How in the world would the clerk know if he sold you the ticket? It could have been purchased from any clerk from any store and/or machine. Good question..........I would and have given tips on winning scratchers before that were $500.00

I have one clerk that always helps me with scratch offs by telling me whats been sold, whos won or lost and gives me recommendations. I am grateful and have won about 50% of the ones that the clerk suggests.....on a $100 ??

Probably not, $500 and above ??? absolutely

I almost always buy my lottery tickets at a liquor store close to my house; in Texas, pkg. stores have to be owned by a resident of the county where they're located and if I did win the JP, I'd want the bonus to go to someone who lives here and not go to some corporation headquartered in another state or town. If I won, I'd buy the clerks pizzas and have them delivered but I'm not going to tip them.

I would tip in certain scenerios.

1- I would have to win a significant amount. I really dont see myself tipping somebody for a $100 win.

2- Did the clerk give me an extra ticket by mistake and that ticket won? Then yes I would tip if it was a couple of hundred.

3- Is the clerk a regular person I get tickets from? If yes then yeah I would give a tip.

The store gets a percentage for every ticket sold. Plus a bonus for each winner. Anything less than 1k, no. Above that, maybe.

But then again, the clerk doesn't tip me when he or she wins.
