We participate in different automobile raffles as well but never have looked into the version offered by Humane Society, I will view the details later on.

Any of the house raffles as well as lottery winnings are all treated as ordinary income for tax purposes. Real estate property taxes in WV is minimal especially when compared to Federal taxes.

I think so. Not only are they burdened with property tax but I think they also owe federal and state taxes on the home they win.

I wonder if the winners of those raffles have the same problem as the waitress who Jack Whittaker brought a home for when he won the PowerBall jackpot. She complained she was worst off since she couldn't afford to pay the realastate taxes.

What is the value of the home that they're offering? I play the St. Judes home raffle and the house comes furnished with a value of $550-$600k.

The Humane Society is doing a car raffle in which they offer your choice of two different luxury vehicles from their list. Each ticket cost $100 plus a one time $100 entry fee. I think the total number of tickets is 3000 or 3500 so it sounds tempting as I would choose a Porsche Convertible and a Tesla model S if I were lucky enough to win. Anyone here familiar or had any experience with Tesla

The St Jude raffle tickets are $100 each here too, and they only sell 7,500 or so of them. I used to buy one per draw but never won anything. I haven't bought one in a couple years but could buy one this year. We'll see.

The house here is usually worth around $350K - $400K, plus they give away a dozen smaller prizes too, most worth a few hundred dollars up to a few thousand.

Probably going to set the bar at $20-25.00 on a raffle ticket.....$150 is a bit out of my norm..unless 95% of the proceeds went to a special fund dealing with childhood diseases.

The Canadian ones are really good, there was one last month which was $100 per ticket with the top pzrize been $300,000 in cash or take the home valued at $450,000 both tax free of course in Canada it was only selling 7,700 tickets and it didn't even sell out.

I usually buy it because the odds are always a lot better than bigger lotteries

I don't buy them either! The only raffle tickets I buy is if I'm at a school event and my kids are trying to win some type of prize. They are usually .50cents each

I don't buy any game ticket that costs more than $5. I don't mind losing my money but I have limits on how fast I'm willing to lose it.

I have bought a few of them and have not won anything so far. I don't feel guilty as all the money goes to charity or for some good cause. I just wanted to get a feel of what you guys think about and do you buy them?

I usually buy 3 for $400 (discounted if you buy 3) and spend about $1000 a yr on different home raffles.
