I've lost 12 games, 46/58, and 79%, but with five games left, if Michigan State beats U Conn and UK beats Florida, I should be in the top 20. They divided the contest into six rounds with a possible 32 points up for grabs each round and a total of 192 points. If a bracket was perfect, but lost the final game, they have 160 points and even though I lost 12 games, if I correctly picked the final four, the final two, and the champion, I'll have a 172 points.

The experts come out every March and only difference this year is the billion dollar challenge. Anyone participating in the office pool brackets knows the key is getting lots of teams into the sweet 16 and hopefully you'll pick the final four.

I wonder how many people had to decide between Dayton and Stanford on their bracket

True, he will likely finish worse than many who were imperfect for the first 2 rounds. I was mainly poking fun at the professor. He got wiped out early.

Dayton bit me again with Syracuse but I'm now at 95%.

He had Oregon being in the final four which now makes his bracket below average. There is nothing unique about getting lucky by picking some first round upsets, but in the second round, Brad picked 7 seed Oregon over 2 seed and home team Wisconsin.

He may have signed up for the contest...he mentioned it in the Twitter feed. I know he has 3 different brackets running and their categories are hidden.

His other brackets aren't doing so well, 81% and 17%. That adds up to 98% so I wonder if he hedged his brackets

There were 3 perfect brackets, but they all chose GW....which lost.

It's looks like I'll be 19/24 going into the last 8 first round games. I had TN beating Duke so the upset won't be as bad if TN beats Belmont. There are only 16 perfect brackets after the first 24 games.

Same here. As soon as OT started, Oklahoma dragged their heels and I knew it probably wasn't going to end well. Funny because I originally had NDSU winning, but changed it a couple of days ago for whatever reason

I have 14 of 16 and according to the leaderboards that's in the top 40,000. I've heard that there are less than 9 million entries in the contest and some estimates put the number of perfect brackets remaining around 10,000. I've seen at least one still in play which was posted last... [ More ]

At the least, 87% of all the brackets were busted early today when Ohio State got beat by a point. It's possible with 12 seed Harvard winning and with and number of upsets in the making, there might be zero perfect after the first day.

The Wildcats are also a lock to win the 1. vs 16. matchup in the West Region.

Too bad there was not a sixth Wildcat in the tourney as the commitee had to settle for scheduling Villanova to play the Milwaukee Panthers (closest thing they could find to the Wildcats) instead as the 2. vs. 15. matchup in the East Region.

The 2012 NCAA women's BB tourney had the four number 1 seeds beating the four number 2 seeds making an all number 1 seed Final Four and the overall number 1 seed won the tourney. Lots of brackets had the winners of those 31 games, but the odds against picking all the other 32 games were still 4,294,967,296 to 1 and nobody had a perfect bracket.

There is a lock in the Midwest region where the 8 seed plays the 9 seed; the Wildcats are a lock to win.

They should have a $10 million consolation prize for anyone getting a perfect Midwest bracket this year. Three play-in games and the defending champion is only a 4 seed. The East regional is wide open too.

On average there are at least two coin flip games in each region in the round of 32 and that's not including the usual one or two upset games. There probably won't be a perfect bracket and the prize reflects that.

I went around that by using a spare cell phone that normally has the text function turned off. If you use your regular cell ,you can always block the number at a later time.

The unfathomable odds at picking the perfect bracket makes PB and MM seem much more attainable even at 259 million to 1. The marketing ploy by Yahoo and Quicken loan is a big win for them as there is a better chance a meteor will destroy the earth than anyone winning the billion dollars.

Theoretically the NCAA selections committee should have perfect brackets because they have all the information, but only once have all four of their number 1 seeds made the Final Four when three times none of the Final Four were number 1 seeds. A number 1 seed won 52% of the tourneys which means in almost half the tourneys, the committee couldn't pick the winner.

I don't follow college basketball but I will give it a try.

Thanks for the clarification as I knew the odds were high but NOT that high.

I didn't realize they offered any second prize. With so many top seeds getting upset it will take an awful lot of luck like perhaps getting struck by lightning and eaten by a shark before finally getting hit by an asteroid while swimming in a pool.

Cash value is $500 million but after taxes it would probably be around $300 million. The odds are actually about 1 in 9.22 quadrillion for a random-pick perfect sheet, and supposedly about 1 in 128 billion for a sheet played by someone who knows basketball.

Anyway, yes I am participating. I played (reg. and tournaments), so know a little bit about game dynamics etc, but still holding no expectations.

I would be perfectly happy to win one of the second prizes. After all, it's free.

Anyone here participating in the Billion dollar March madness contest? I think the cash value is around $400 million but I have heard the odds of getting a perfect play sheet is around 50 billion to 1.

I don't follow college basketball but I will give it a try.
