Thats a tough question. Something like that actually happened to me once.

Not with scratchoffs, but the machine gave me multi-draws when I didn't mark it.

I only meant to play 30 bucks but when the machine kept printing out tickets and the clerk said $96 bucks please, I was kind of upset.

As it happens a nasty scratchhead (no offense intended) left latex all over the place and it contaminated the machine.

I was late back to work, and eventually got fired.

The amount wouldn't matter but I'd quickly notify someone at the desk what I lost in there and tell them I'd be back for my money later.

And if there was any problem in getting that money back later, well, naturally one would have to smash the machine then.

The setup is: You're running late for something important like picking up the kids or getting back to work from lunch break, yet decide to take a few seconds to grab a scratch off ticket(s) on the way and wouldn't you just know it, the bill checker jams on your bill. The machine now says to request assistance from the store staff, which could take what will seem like forever. How much cash trapped in the machine would you be willing to walk away from?
