So many judge gambling and gamblers. But it does create jobs and lots of tax revenue.

The California lottery donates so much to education. I think I heard Pennsylvania uses proceeds for roads and stuff. It is sad for those losing their jobs. I am originally from outside of Detroit...where they legalized gambling to revitalize the city suffering from the auto market decline.

Taj Mahal originally owned the land where Showboat was built,

Atlantic city race course simulcast will close today, the final nail in the coffin.

Although I did'nt use the simulcast, it's what kept the track alive since they were required to run a live 6 day meet in the springtime

as a qualification for the simulcast licence.

I will miss That springtime meet 8 miles from home as now the closest track to me is 70 some miles away.

Take your pick, Monmouth park 70 miles north, Philly park 70 miles NW, Delaware park 70 miles West.

The real killer for AC was Pennsylvania. A ton of clientel came from the Philly/Bucks County area.

PA brought the casino to the masses. Right in the neighborhood. You can mow your lawn, go gamble..then come home and relax

or do whatever. Going to A/C required a whole day affair. They gouge you parking fees. And you come home late at night

pissed off. IMO NJ should have been proactive in this regard and allowed casinos to be built at or nearby every border point.

That's a great idea, in the past I've often wished I had kept a sort of diary of short stories rather than sit down and try to do it all at once,

but I never new it would last that long. tape recording some of the folks I worked with over the years might work.

No surprise . Once Mohegan sun and Foxwoods in ct got going everyone knew it would hurt AC sales. Now there's two casinos just outside Manhattan and their building some more about 90mins from me.

Assuming you weren't required to sign a non-disclosure agreement, perhaps a pro- insider casino revelation or personal experiences book with some new twist would make for informative reading for players (using an appropriate pen name, of course). Short Stories with some sparkling expose are always in demand by weekly publications.

Yup, and the lanes had a lottery machine, I could get my tix while I was at work.

people thought it strange for a casino to have a bowling alley, no big deal in Nevada,

gotta have something to do inside when it's 99+ degrees outside.

I spent the last few days making keys for doors that never had to be locked before

and making all the pushbutton combos the same to make things easy for security.

That casino originally opened in 1984 as Harrahs at Trump plaza.

I suspect this property will reopen w/out the Trump name,

as the mortgage is controlled by Carl Icahn who would love to rub Trump's face in it.

Icahn also owns the Tropicana in A.C.

Do you know if he still owns the Stratosphere and the 2 Arizona Charlies in Vegas

So Sad. A lot of great memories @ the showboat. Especially when the bowling lanes were there.

I use to bowl on a league called the Atlantic city league out of Baltimore.

We would have at the least 3 to 4 bus loads of people going up. It was a big league.

At the end of each season, the whole league had the playoffs in Atlantic city at the Showboat.

Cash prizes and trophies were presented at the end of the games and then most of us went gambling.

Trump plaza had a buyer last year for 20 Mils.

Multi-millionaire Carl Icahn who owns the Tropicana in Atlantic City

and Stratosphere and Arizona Charlie's in Las Vegas holds the mortgage note on Trump plaza, stopped the sale saying the price was too low.

why would these people rather see these places closed instead of sold ?

These guys are playing monopoly for real
