The winner came forward last week from cali. He went to his convienent store in a power chair and is a regular there. He buys sugar free popsicles at the store and decided to buy a lotto ticket and won. I read his story on the powerball website.-weshar75

Well, my home has more than 60% democratic voters, and we're not broken down, nor have we had any crime here. We do have a septic system, which works as designed because we pump it frequently.

LOL! No way is simple mathematics involved when california has won mega millions allegedly 5 times this year according to the winners gallery. So far this year allegedly 3 powerball wins for california, so total in all, that is 8 jackpot wins so far this year! Something just doesn't add up , with the constant wins, if you actually look at the data, the lottery is often biased towards california.

I'll take a stab at a guess. More Republicans belong to conservative, fundamentalist religions that believe it's morally wrong to buy a lottery ticket. If that's true, then there are more Dems buying tickets than Reps. But that still boils down to the states that sell the most tickets tend to win the most often.

The 25% is collected for the IRS not the California Franchise Tax Board. California does not tax lottery winnings on a state level.

California doesn't even tax lottery. I can't think how else the state would profit. Maybe sales tax from increased consumption, but even that's not even going to be a blip on the radar in the scheme of things.

Just looked on my state lottery, California won 60 million dollar jackpot already. Are they trying to bail out californias broke cities by giving them consistent jackpot wins so they don't have to separate into 6 states? Maybe some other worthy state can win then if they split up california.
