Interesting, I heard that you can win at blackjack but I never could figure out how. I tried the known rules and it didn't work for me in simulation with my own decks of cards. Here the dealing is done with a shuffle machine. Cards are spread on a wheel inside of the machine. You might do better with intuition, but I really have no idea on this.

The Pick 3 Sums n Balanced Boxed Combos Version

We've been playing round with a balanced n value for sums so we can apply the same counting technique.

In Excel, if the sum is in cell A1, the formula in another cell is: =ROUND(A1 - 13.5, 0)

This make the range balanced from -14 to 14 and there is no 0 n value.

Below is a table with these new n values and boxed combos.

Lunch break.

With keeping track of the running total, you can keep on adding up a running total for as long as you'd like.

It could go on forever, but if you think about what happens in blackjack, you might want to reset to 0 after a certain number of draws.

In blackjack there is a fixed number of decks being used, some use 2, others 6 or 7.

The basic idea here is at some point the decks get shuffled and the card counting starts over.

This seems quite straightforward to me. Jade has reworked Thoth's distance formula such that each Pick 3 and Pick 4 combination is assigned a value that is either minus, zero or plus.

Ok, have a little time before work.

Basically, card counting in blackjack works like this.

Sets of cards are assigned -1, 0 and +1.

The table below shows these for each face value.

Value Count Card

-1 5 10 J Q K A

0 3 7 8 9

+1 5 2 3 4 5 6

As cards are dealt, a running total is made for each of the cards.

If everything is randomized, the total tends to be 0 or near 0 due to cards having an equal chance of being drawn on both the +side and -side.

The Reworked Pick 4 Expansion

We had problems with trying to work with the uneven distribution in the LMH values.

So, we came up with something that makes a better balanced set.

It follows the two step process the Pick 3 work out does.

The Pick 4 numbers are: A B C D

The first subtractions are: A - B and C -D

The final subtraction is: (A - B) - (C - D)

This reduces to: A - B - C + D

It follows on the same path, but we need to add a difference for the Middle numbers.

This makes it Low, Middle-low, Middle-high and High; to become LMlMhH.

Using A B C D as the Pick4 numbers, we can expand on this theme.

There will be 3 levels of subtraction.

The first is: A - B, B - C and C -D

Next we have: (A - B) - (B - C) and (B - C) - (C - D)

Alternate Non-Negative Values

To make the equations non-negative, just add 18 and 9 the equations like so.

A B C: n = A - 2B + C + 18

L M H: n = L - 2M + H + 9

Instead of -18 to 18 for A B C and -9 to 9 for L M H, you'll have 0 to 36 for A B C and 0 to 18 for L M H.

Either way, the distribution is the same.

The Pick 3 Application

Using the simple expression A - 2B + C we can apply it to an Excel formula and find the values for all possible Pick 3 combinations.

The equation is then n = A - 2B + C.

The n values are going to be both + and -.

We know some of you have a thing with negative numbers, but just work with it for now.

As an example, if A B C are 7 1 9, then n = 7 - 2 1 + 9 or 7 - 2 + 9 which is 14.
