It's still better than Oklahoma our highest scratcher is $5 for $40-$50 thousand we have no set for life games no life changing games . OLC is trying to figure out why lottery sales have declined because the games suxs . The surrounding states games are better Texas, Missouri, Arkansas and even Kansas scratchers have better games and payouts.

My brother won $1,000 on a Washington State scratcher two years ago he lives in Silverdale Wa.

My biggest lottery win came via a $2 card and I don't play that much scratch offs. In my humble opinion, $2 cards are inexpensive enough to make the risk worthwhile. The cost does add up but not as fast as those $10 and $20 cards.

Also I think the NY Lottery is also a decent one as far as scratch offs are concerned.

LOL exactly that's why I play in Texas they have life changing jackpot . I haven't bought any scratchers from Texas in a while though but I have been playing Lotto Texas Texas 2 Step. I went to the TLC website and saw some new scratch-off games that I may give a try the next time were in Texas.

Wow! Now that really sucks. No opportunity to make anyone wealthy. And if no one hardly wins the draw games in your state, it is a total waste to play unless you just happen to luck out on a jackpot prize with enough to buy gas and buy more tickets. lol

I wish Oklahoma would get games like that $5 is our highest with a jackpot of $40,000-$50,000 no million dollar or even half/quarter prizes and they wonder why lottery sales are down. I asked the OLC why that is and they said legislation

I hear ya! $10 and up cards are the way to go for those who can afford them - larger top prizes and better odds of getting a winner.

Washington is a pretty state, but the weather sucks in general compared to the southeastern U.S. Rain and snow out the ying-yang. And yes, I've been there numerous times - used to live in Portland, Oregon.

You're right. I wouldn't rack up on $1 or $2 scratchers. I'd rack up on $10 and $20 scratchers considering, I have the financial means to do it. However, I don't plan to move to Washington state unless I hit it big here in Georgia.

The low-dollar scratchers are OK for those with a very limited amount to spend on the lottery. North Carolina has one good $2 card with a top prize of $1000 a week for life.

I never buy those 1$ or 2 scratch cards..I think the best odds are in the 10$ to 20$ ones to win a descent amount back or maybe even the top prize of 1 million here in WA for a 20$ scratch off.

I doubt anybody is going to rack up on scratchers , unless they have the financial ability to buy them in large quantities, like by the roll.

I don't spend much money on scratchers under $10, simply because so few of them have large enough top prizes to allow me to retire immediately, if I were lucky enough to win a top prize. If you want to win real big, you have to aim real big.

So, you guys believe that the bigger the prizes, the better the odds of winning? I was thinking, even if Washington state has mediocre prizes, maybe the players are low volume and prefer casinos. If that's the case, I could maybe rack up on scratchers if nobody else has interest. *shrugs

Connecticut and Pennsylvania don't make my Top 5. I would replace them with Illinois and Virginia.

Most Connecticut scratchers have weak top prizes, and the ConnLott will end games that still have top prizes left. Pennsylvania scratchers also tend to have weak top prizes, especially for such a heavily populated state.

Thanks James1. That is good info. If I win big here in Ga., I'd still like to move elsewhere. I'm just ready for a change. I'll figure out where, what, and how often to play if I do move to Washington state. My whole life isn't depending on how good the lottery is here in Ga. There are winners in every state that has it. So, somebody is winning.

I agree. Even tough its still hard to win in Mass, at least they offer $1M prizes on $5 tickets and keep older games active. Connecticut is also very good. The higher priced tickets have very good mid-tier odds.

My Top 5 having played in half the US

1) Mass

2) Connecticut

3) Georgia

4) Florida

5) Pennsylvania

California has by far the largest population of all the states in the USA, as well as an established lottery that has been around for quite a while, so the law of averages dictates that California will have a significant number of jackpot winners.

Florida is top five for scratchers, but Massachusetts is NUMERO UNO, bar none. Mass has the biggest top prizes, and also pays out the largest percentage of the money taken in to the players - over 70%. They also will keep games active for several years as long as there are top prizes left, whereas a substantial number of lotteries will fairly quickly close out a card that has top prizes left, if it isn't selling so well anymore.

I lived in Florida for about 18 yrs and played the lottery maybe once or twice. I was just too scared to lose money. I can't really say if they are good or bad. I just think, their are lucky winners. Now when it comes to draw games, California seems to get the most.

haha! Ikr! I don't know what I'd do if I got there and couldn't win what I've won in Ga. I haven't had a win higher than $100 on scratch offs. But if I could hit it for $2.5 or $10 million, I think I would be still happy to play and win a million in Washington state. We'll see. My second choice is Mass. I may visit Boston sooner or later. If you need a change of scenery, luckyladie, you might want to consider moving to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Beautiful scenery, rivers, the Blue Ridge Parkway and abundant tourist attractions. If you're a city girl, there's Asheville. If you prefer small towns, they come a dime a dozen. Your best bet to win some amount of cash would be the casino's here in WA.. I play the lottery everyday and the most I've ever won was on a 20$ scratch off for 500$.. I've been close to winning 200,000 a couple times, but was off a day or so from the stores that I buy from..Timing is everything when playing scratchers..

Wow! Thanks for the tips Bran77. I haven't had any major wins here in Ga. It just seems like we have far too many scratch-off games with winners usually in areas further north or south. Maybe a few pass through but none worth quitting a job over. Good luck to you anyway

I live here and to tell you the truth WA lottery is WEAK compared to other states. The winners are mostly in YAKIMA or someplace farther then Tacoma or Spanaway. The draw games are WEAK as well since they use RNG to select numbers. People usually play pick 3 or match4. For 2$ you can win 10,000 on match4.. The Casino's are decent though, but stay away from Emerald Queen Casino unless you like Cig smoke and run down areas..

I noticed that. They even post how many $50 prizes there are. But they do have a lot casinos. Maybe that is where the money really is but then again, if I bought up the tickets there, I'd be happy winning $1million or $200k. They do have a draw game that has a huge jackpot of $3.3 million dollars. It looks similiar to Ga's Fantasy 5 which has never exceeded $900k and that usually is split between 2 or 3 winners. Washington has weak payouts on their scratchers, compared to states like Georgia and North Carolina. A typical $20 card top prize in WA will only be $1M, compared to $3M or more in GA or NC. The average $10 card top prize in WA is $200K, compared to $1M in GA and NC.

Overall WA's lottery is average and mediocre for the 50 states, definitely not measuring up to Top Ten lotteries like GA, NC etc. If you're a scratcher enthusiast, you can live in quite a few states that are better than WA. Not... [ More ]

Does anyone live in Washingtonton state or know of someone who does? I am thinking about visiting there and maybe even move there. I just went to their lottery site and they don't seem to be that big on scratchers. As a matter of fact, they have end game dates for tickets that were never claimed for their top prizes. The largest prize I have noticed is $1 million dollars. They even tell you how many tickets were printed for each game. Is that good or bad
