The jackpots are slow as it is, so it couldn't be that much difference. If you think it is cool that no where else wins except california, or you want to spin some other goofy excuses to make yourself feel better to keep away those ( hey what if something is going on ) type of thoughts away go for it.

Despite joining 1/3 into the year, California sold about 223.3 million Powerball tickets last year. Add that to the 140.5 million so far this year, and you get 363,800,000 tickets sold. That's pretty substantial, enough to expect at least 2 winners without even blinking. Using the formula I posted in another thread, the probability of 4 or more winners from California in the 1.5 year period is about 15.7%. That gives odds of 1 in 6.4, which makes it seem not so unlikely after all.

Last year there was one winner from California on Oct 23, 2013. I should have worded it better. I should have said for the year of 2013 California had 1 winner. The main story however is that 44% of the PB wins this year have come from California.

And no one would play because the jackpots would grow too slowly!! Then if a smaller state won more than one jackpot we would have to kick them out also. Or maybe if you don't like the big games just play your own state lottery and just maybe someone visiting your state from California would win it

Most of us don't care if millions of other californians lost. Every single time california wins a jackpot right after a recent one PB or MM, it solidifies my claims even more.

I say let california have MM and PB and let the other states that aren't california, new york, or florida, or any other that has more population then other states, so the others can create a separate lottery without those states.

I think you should take that idea one step further and propose to kick out everyone who plays the lottery. Also...

no one outside of California has a fair shot at winning any MUSL game!

Maybe instead we make a petition that allows the rest of the states to select the full range of number combinations? It's no fair we can't select combinations that those in California can.

People winning more often in Cali is an illusion. Why can't some of you people get this already, especially with related threads not too in the distant? Your chance is still the same if you bet on Earth or on Mars. Those numbers are just general stats, not a representation of an advantage living in Cali.

I don't think that's going to happen. I'm hearing more and more people are either pulling out or pulling back on their spending or waiting for the jackpot to get really high to put their money into powerball or mega millions.

After reading the post you are commenting about, I would believe kicking them out of the MUSL would leave them with just the california lottery games, let them win each others money, instead of having a transfer of wealth ( socialism ) from other states to california.

You can see how much they play. At lower jackpot levels, 7%. At higher jackpots 10%. Winning far more than that as a %.

I'm not sure how much 'bounce' they have, but they do have easily the largest population of any U.S. state. Officially they have around 38 million residents, but that doesn't include the millions of illegal aliens that don't show up on population counts/estimates. Nobody knows exactly how many people in CA play the lottery, but it's safe to say they have the largest pool of players in the country by a healthy margin, so it's not terribly surprising they have a significant number of jackpot winne... They averaged a win a year? They didn't even get Powerball until a year and a quarter ago, so it can't be compared. They were also winning Mega left and right in 2009-2010 and 2012

The time has come to kick them out of all MUSL games. They can have their own state lottery and all 38 million residents can win it split the change.

Maybe the government should tax CA jackpots at a 99% rate hahaha.
