I agree with this as well. However I would also include how long it would take for me to relocate. I'd want all of my belongings n such out of the old place and into storage if need be, while I figure it all out. I wouldn't want to have to return to my old neighborhood to do anything....just in case neighbors, family, or camera crews are waiting.....

The anon option only applies if you are a resident of SC. If you are not, then if a claim is made under the freedom of information, your name will be revealed. Happened to a NC winner who won in SC before NC had the lottery.

So you are implying that it doesn't take three weeks for a state to collect the money? if that is the case then some jackpot winner can collect the next business day.

Perhaps that simple clarification should be placed in the memo.

In most states it takes at least 3 weeks for the cash to be collected by the State lottery from the time of claiming. Plus a day or week to be wired to your account, so it would take several weeks for the cash to actually hit your account. Might as well start that process ASAP.

I would have counsel accompany me. A Lawyer, Accountant, and a member of a Publicity firm.

They would do most of the talking and I would give a short and sweet comment.

The record setting jackpot won in Rhode Island by sweet 80 year old black woman comes to mind.

I don't think you can skip the press conference if your state requires one, being that is part of the rule of the game. Also not all lotteries do bank transfers, they give you a check.

After 2 week is a good time, that gives them enough time to collect the money from all the states because they don't have it ready by the next day. It's a year out here in California- perhaps that is one if not the * reason for the State Lottery holding out from paying you for up to 6-8 weeks should you be the winner.They say it takes that long to process your payment.

I'm thinking the Florida winner might have been David Lee Edwards.

According to TLCML and the winner himself that's how the letters were addressed.

MM and PB average maybe 8 to 15 jps a year (maybe less now for MM) so when a big one gets hit it's no challenge to know where the winner is.

Just as an FYI for this discussion, at least two jackpot winners on TLCML said they begged the post office to stop brining them sacks and sacks of mail and the post office told them they have to deliver it if they know where they are.

Those winners were in Florida and New Mexico. The letters were addressed to

Lottery Winner Florida

or

New Mexico.

I disagree.

My plan doesn't require anonymity, nor is it an option in NC. Let them release my name, city and amount won - I don't care. I won't give any interviews, won't appear at any award ceremony, won't say one word to the media, and won't pose for any photos.

I also assure you the large national bank I have an account with would be happy to take my money - one or two hundred mill is chump change to them.

Thanks for the compliment, but someone here at LP quite a while ago had the idea of hitting a jackpot when it went back down to the start point and the person who hit it before that hadn't came forward yet, I just tweaked it a little.

Your plan would only work in the four anonymous states. Also your bank may not want an influx of tens of millions or more cash on hand. , some of the rules change and bank examiners start camping out at the bank then.

Give the lottery commission only the absolute minimum amount of personal information required to claim the money. Don't do any interviews or appear at an award ceremony. Have the lottery transfer the money directly to your bank account. Don't talk to the media at all. No loose lips around your lawyer either, he/she only gets the info required by law to set up the trust.

I would claim as soon as possible after finding legal representation and setting up a trust. It is better to claim early so the media circus will die down quickly. Just give really boring explanations for what you will do with the money and people will soon forget you and move on to the next big winner.

I wouldn't wait too long - remember Murphy's Law. It wouldn't be wise to leave a winning ticket in the house for very long - some punk might break in looking for drug money and find it. If I was going to wait more than a week to claim it, I'd probably rent a safety deposit box at my bank ASAP.
