Now I understand what El Gordo de Navidad is. I thought it's like PB or MM and win the whole Euro Billions JP prize by yourself or maybe with someone with the same numbers.

There is also the draw of El Ni o , which is celebrated on January 6th. It's like El Gordo de Navidad , but the rewards are minor (the bolet d cimo cost the same 20 ).

The overall jackpot is huge and in the billions, it's just that there are 160 of the top prizes given away which makes each prize smaller. Most people don't pay the $243 or whatever for the billete, so this is why there are usually many many winners all sharing the pot (which explains the popularity). I think the odds of winning anything are like 1 in 7, better than many games, but still not worth buying a billete especially since the top prize for the odds and cost is worse than elsewhere.... Thanks for providing more information on El Gordo ... still facinating to me.

I agree with ThatScaryChick ... would have to rethink everything ... I just thought with the game being on sale all year, the tickets would not be so high ... even at a lower price you would think the jackpot would have to be huge after growing for a whole year ... but then again we are talking billions so a lower price ticket might not get there.

I would still give it a shot ... just would cut back on something

Well I have to retract when I posted earlier that Thrifty might like this game ... only playing once a year !

I really didn't have any idea of the actual cost ... I had seen $25 a ticket posted and now I see $243 ... but the game has been around for over 200 years ... the ticket prices didn't seem to kill it off.

Anyway, even at $243 this game only pays out 70% which is more than most lotteries but still less than some scratch-offs in many states.

El Gordo wouldn't work in the U.S. because the states can't hardly even cooperate for the other games. Look at MM and PB. Run by 2 different groups.
