I was starting to come around to your way of thinking since for the winners, winning is as easy as buying a ticket. It's the losers who think winning is hard maybe because they work hard at winning with no success. Winning a lottery seems to be more associated with luck than hard work. Players doing the extra work of studying past drawings and their results haven't improved their odds of winning over those who simply buy some quick picks .

If you're talking about the amount of effort one spend, how hard can it be to ask for a few quick picks? There are players willing to put more effort into winning but no one has come up with a good way to do that. Even doing lengthy workups and using complicated systems which do require extra effort don't seem to help either even if they do make playing the games more entertaining.

It all depends on the particular 5 numbers that are drawn. Just because there were 3 tickets with the 5 numbers drawn last night doesn't mean that every 5 number combination was played 3 times, and if a different combination had been drawn there's very good chance there would have been a different number of 5+0 winners.

I find it more interesting since the jackpot was hit that only two tickets won a million dollars ... the jackpot wasn't at 400 or 500 million but usually there are many winners just in CA and NY and then more scattered around the country ... wondering how much play there really was, maybe just a lucky fluke the jackpot was won last night.

I usually play 15 lines when I plan to play all 15 megaballs even though overtime the odds of matching the megaballs are the same. Looking at the history of the last 129 drawings since the matrix change only seven megaballs has followed #7 and #14 and #15 were the only ones to do it twice so I might guess you're playing those two. I plan to play 10 line and those megaballs will also be among the ten I choose to play.

If your goals is to play the last 2 drawings of any given roll, you might expect that to mean #14 and #15 before the first drawing happens, based on the low chance of ever seeing #16.

I understand what you mean, but I think the way you said it was inaccurate. Simply saying each additional rollover becomes less and less likely would be accurate, assuming sales increase. I think that adding cumulatively implies that the number of previous drawings is (and remains) a factor, and that leading with the reference to the 90th percentile makes it more inaccurate or misleading. I got the $134.9 million from MUSL, which is as official as it gets. The CVO wasn't updated because the jackpot wasn't hit. For instance, the actual cash jackpot for 01/02 was $119.6 million, but $119.1 million was advertised. For 12/30, it was $109.1 million, but $108.4 million was advertised.

As mentioned, the prizes posted are only estimates. Anytime there is a discrepancy it basically means they haven't updated the advertised to the actual cash. They normally won't do that either, unless... [ More ]

Interesting. I don't usually do the math between the cash and annuity. I know it fluctuates depending on interest rates. I just check the amount of the cash, subtract the fed tax, and calculate how much money I can spend each year for the next 25 years if I win.

I think the 30 year annuity is based mostly off the 30 year US treasury. Since there are no 35 or 40 year US treasuries, I don't know how the lotteries could promise a 35 or 40 year annuity.

Each MM (and likewise with PB) jurisdiction maintains its own numbers file, and hence the delay in posting the results.

As for the billion dollar annuity jackpot, that could be some time coming. Many occasional players don't even bother until the news media is hyping far and wide that the jackpot being record huge. My guess is it will take at least a couple more roll-overs to get to the $400+ million range before the buying frenzy really kicks in.
