Back in 2010, Israel pulled the exact same numbers -- 13,14,26,32,33 --twice within a month.

Nothing strange about it. Assuming a truly random drawing, consecutive numbers will appear in Mega Millions about 25% of the time, and in Powerball about 30% of the time.

As usual with lottery calculations, the key is to figure out how likely it is that it doesn't happen.

In a MM drawing, what's the probability that the second number drawn will not be next to the first? About 72/74. (I'm ignoring the possibility that the first ball is 1 or 75. I'm just going for an approximate answer here,... [ More ]

any relevant significance, then would the state's fear of losing so much money on this or that drawing be considered?

Its just an adjacent hit the thing to look for is finding the right number and the number it likes to come back with. Its not that hard if you look through past results.

MM numbers for 01/30/2015 were 18-31-39-45-55 MB 06.

As you can see, random weird things will happen but not all always because that would make it predictable. Back to back numbers will appear from time to time.

If you don't know, what do you base your thinking on?

Let's start with an easy one. Suppose the first ball drawn is 21. What are the chances that the 2nd ball will be a consecutive number? What are the chances that the 3rd, 4th, or 5th ball will be consecutive to the first?

The clumping up of some of these numbers reflects more to the randomness than anything else. But if you jjtheprince want to believe in conspiracy then you have that right. Ijs

When the results are extremely improbable. For instance, when it actually happens for every single drawing in both games for the next six months or more in real life instead of your imagination.

Then again, whatever the results of next Saturday's PB drawing are I can promise the odds of that result happening because of a fair and unmanipulated drawing will only be 1 in 175,223,510.

It is a very interesting observation ... but how does a person take advantage of it or really use it. There are so many numbers to cover ... like you said, a Cash 5 game is one thing but 75 numbers ... a small fortune maybe spent just to win a few dollars.

this is interesting observation. You would expect such clumping on Cash 5 games but not in games with 75 59 balls.

There is an average of repetitions. The minimum is 0 and the maximum is the amount of balls drawn of that set. There are charts for that.

Statistically Speaking for 2014:

Mega Millions -

sequential pairs happened 25 times or 24% of the time.

at least one repeating number from the previous draw happened 34 times or 33% of the time

Both happening in the same draw was 14 times

Repeating bonus balls 7 times

Powerball :

sequential pairs happened 41 times or 39% of the time.

at least one repeating number from the previous draw also happened 41 times or 39% of the time.

Anything that runs long enough will look fishy eventually. Number combos can't always be perfectly spaced,

mixed or used. The situation that's perking your interest will go away...just give it some more time. It'll go

back to being impossible again. Don't get your hopes up that there's a predictable pattern emerging. PB MM

are tough games, I wouldn't kill my chances playing the temporary norm. GL though.

Yes, I've noticed. I've matched a few pairs over the wks but it doesn't pay anything. The highest I've hit was 3 white balls on mm.

Has anyone went back and looked at previous drawings and looked at the number of times back to back pairs have been drawn? For example 49,50 and 10,11 etc. It seems like number pairs are the norm rather than the exception. It just seems fishy for that to be happening just about all the time. What do you statistics people think here
