Thats how illinois is. With a big loud ch ching, also have a full size monitor to display whats going on. Playing numbers, also displays your winnings. They did it to cut down on the crooks behind the lottery machine.

If I recall correctly, the sound can be disabled. In PA we had a game where if you played through the terminal, every

certain number of tickets was a winner accompanied by a winners tune.

I remember some clerks complaining about the jingles and talking about turning the sound off.

Since PA machines make tunes no more..(they do print out a payout slip, that might be better than a jingle that

yeh i think all the machines do that/ play a little jingle when its a winner because the lottery is trying to stop store clerks from ripping people off. When I was a cashier the lotto machine was a pain in the ass along with the other crap that you have to worry about like being robbed!? they keep adding more and more stuff that the clerk has to responsible for. they don't pay u any more

He should have counted out your money as he handed it to you, if not then you should have stood there and counted it out in front of him regardless of the line. That way he would have known he never gave you the right amount.

No disrespect Moose59- l guess l always try and think a few moves ahead..therefore..

If you were over 6' 2 and weighed a good 250- l seriously doubt you going to get a clerk trying to screw you over $100,000 on your ticket. However if you weighed 115lbs soaking wet and were 5'2 ....

Really sad that people will turn on you like that.

One time on a crap table I had a player try to reach into the bank to try and get a handful of chips that he thought he 'had coming'. People on the game swore that I punched the guy (no such thing happened) and all those people were invited to watch the surveillance films and see if they wanted to stick to their story. No one did.

Yeah at the stores where I cash my tickets the terminal does a little jingle and says winner! after the ticket is scanned.

Forgot to mention also that in Tx when the clerk scans a winning ticket, the machine plays a little tune. So they don't have an opportunity to cheat .

The first rule of thumb to playing the lottery is to Know the rules . There is NO RULE that says hand your ticket over to the clerk in order for him/her to check it for you

That's essentially the same thing I do, though my threshold is somewhat higher - I'll cash up to $50, and occasionally, even $100. Anything more, and I go to trusted lottery retailers who have a good track record, and willing to payout upwards of $500 without fuss.

Yea, I can't stand it when there is a crowd growing behind you especially in a small gas stations and when your trying to do multiple transactions. I'm making it a personal rule, when and if I win over $20, I'm going to a grocery store or shopping outlet customer service center to redeem.

One place I went did the following:

(1) Handed them my $80.00 winning ticket.

(2) They said, care to play any lottery ?

(3)Why yes...and I proceed to play about 5$ worth.

(4) They hand me the tickets and pop some cash in my hand as there was a line so they told me to move along. As I walk away I see that they only gave me 55$ back. Since I ve been playing daily this past month, I ve had a few clerks mess up my request or didn t hear me correctly. I had one give me 5 day draw single play when I said QP 5 plays, had another give me wrong scratch offs and wouldn t let exchange them before I paid, said she couldn t void them out, so ended up paying for additional tickets I didn t want, and had one that didn t scan my win, just asked me how much he owed me, I told him what I won and wanted to exchange them. In the How to Claim section of the florida lottery website it says that u should go to any lottery retailer (i.e. store) to validate a winning scratch off ticket which is what i did and got screwed!? (or u can mail it).

Nothing like that but I did have a clerk pretend he ran my play slips and try to pond off on me some MM mistakes. If I had accepted those tickets and my numbers came in there would have been nothing I could have done about it.

If I had asked for auto plays it would have made no difference but when I make out play slips I expect to get the numbers I played.

I've never had a problem, but I always check my own tickets before bringing them in to be cashed so I know if I won or not. If it's a small amount, say a few dollars, I cash it at a convenience store but if it's a large amount, say $50, I go to a supermarket since they have more cash on hand. So far, never been cheated.

In Illinois the self-scanners tell you if you won or lost, text only.

When the clerk checks it on their scanner if the ticket won anything at all the scanner plays a jingle. I'm not sure if they can turn off the sound or not but I haven't seen one fail yet.

The back of the tickets give all the where and how to cash information and say to sign the ticket before doing anything. It's getting to the point when I read stories about players getting scammed by clerks, I'm wondering how people can be that stupid.

I haven't really had a problem with a store clerk trying to cheat me out of a lottery win. The place I usually stop at has a self service machine where you can buy both scratch off and draw game tickets. It has a ticket scanner and you can apply the winnings as credit toward the machine, which I do sometimes.

Same with me. I know what the tic is worth when I cash it in. Also, the clerk has to scan the tic to see if it's a winner and how much the winning tic pays. I've never had a clerk try to cheat me, but I also buy and cash my tics at only two stores and they both know me.

I think the occasional story about bad clerks tends to stir up horror stories that are less than truthful.

I wouldn't be ripped off by a clerk because I check my own tickets. When I cash my tickets in I already know how much I've won in the first place so no surprises. I've also never had a clerk try to pull a fast one on me.

Unfortunately if you were ripped off by a clerk u probably wouldn't know it
