I forget which states web site had this but the last time I read about QPs they were based on time of day and previous numbers played on the particular terminal.

Glad you said per say Chopper.

The datacenter I work in has at least 9 IBM Z-series mainframes. Granted, that's across 3 physical boxes (they're LPAR'd) but there's still a lot more mainframes around than most people think.

My guess is MUSL has a few high end unix boxes sitting on a raised floor somewhere. Probably has lots of DASD on a SAN. One CPU backs up the other in case one crashes kinda thing.

Really no more Mainframes per say.

Data Centers will run what's called a SAN Array, this can easily support 1000 SAS drives ran through a Fiber Channel switch.

This can be ran from 1 desktop, running virtual software like VMWare that controls a cluster of physical boxes, say 5 Dell 2900 rack servers.

If 1 server crashes the other 4 can pool resources, until U replace the box.

It's fine the way it is.

One mainframe producing easy picks for all states would not work well at all. The poor mainframe would not be able to help millions of people wanting to buy easy picks.

An easy pick number has the same odds of winning as the easy pick that actually wins. It doesn't matter in which state you buy the number.

Thanks Raven62, I could be totally wrong but, may-be if there was only one mainframe that covered all states, maybe pb and mm would have a variety of states winning the jackpots. Instead of looking at how many tickets sold in a state.

Quick Pick tickets are generated randomly by the terminal at the retailer, and there is no central computer that is controlling ticket generation.

As far as picking quick picks or if each state has their own mainframe computer for picking quick picks.
