and there are only three MM and PB prizes requiring a claims form so only a fool would hand ticket winning the top two prizes to a store clerk.

For the first time last week I scanned one it said see the sales person or whatever come to find out that card had ended was no longer available...in other words it wasn't any good at all.

I had picked it up where someone had left it quite awhile back just ran across it so decided to scan it though it didn't look like a winner but when it said that at first I thought maybe I was mistaken it was a big one...

Well you have one of two choices.

A) Run the other way.

B) Sign it and hand it over.

Possesion is 9/10 of the law. Never let a winning ticket out of your hands. Thats why I never mail in my winners.

This happened to me just this evening. I knew the ticket was a $21 winner before I scanned it but I always scan everything before handing it in just to make sure I didn't mess up. I scanned it and it said not a winner. I was mystified. Then I scanned it again and the scanner went crazy and kept repeating not a winner about 10 times in a row. I moved to another scanner and it said Congratulation! You won $21 so I went back to the first scanner, scanned it, and the darn thing said not a winner bli... [ More ]

I would never attempt to cash a winning ticket at a convenience store anyway, b/c they might not have enough money on hand to pay out, or they might not want to, b/c they are a small operation to begin with.

Cash your winning tickets at a grocery store instead, b/c most grocery stores usually have enough money on hand to make the $$$ payout.

I know you cashed tickets worth more than $600, but based on some of the comments, not many others have. And it looks like most have cashed for less than $100. But I'm still trying to figure out why someone would by a scratch-off in another state and then drive home to check it.

The only PB and MM tickets that require seeing the clerk are the tickets with 4 + 1 and 5 + 0 matches so the point of this thread is the reaction of a player winning a lot more than they thought. The people having pro... [ More ]

here it generally means the scanner cant tell you,. it may or may not be winner. its a pain because i play keno and they use the same scanner. although we have player cards i sometimes am to lazy to use them but recently. i was informed that i have $3 won on the card from some where. i know its spot 1 keno as thats the only thing that pays $3. so ill be using it more often obviously i cant be trusted.

min wages here doesnt seem as bad as usa so people dont seem to scam as much

Trust but verify, check the printout that says the amount won by the ticket. Many clerks read and trash them without every showing them to the customers.

They could just post their picks on the prediction board and check the winner list after LP check them which works for most games except pick5's that pay for matching 2 like Ohio's Rolling Cash5.

I guess if someone bought a large number of tickets and is too lazy to check them, using the scanner is better than just handing the tickets unsigned to a clerk. But if I scan a ticket and it said see the clerk , I'm signing the ticket and checking to see how much it worth BEFORE seeing the clerk .

No clerk.. no touchy the ticket...drive home..check tickets on line at least 3 to maybe as many as 10 times.

Call spouse into room....do a lil dance and repeat this rhyme:

I scan my ticket first, when it said see clerk. He scan it hand it back. Tell me congratulation and hand me some paper work. Then he told I had to go to main Lottery office to get the ticket cashed. So the Lottery office cut me check had my picture taking with a over size check. I believe that would been the end of that. People started coming out the wood work. cbr

I never ask a clerk to check my tickets, I tell them I'm cashing it because I already know what it's worth and if it's worth more than $600 I tell them to validate it so I can go to the local bank to collect my money.

compare the numbers while in your car.

Sign the back of the ticket.

l was told that the scanners NEVER make a mistake- supposedly they will never say Not a winner, and after a few more scans say Winner. If they did- l can see a lawsuit.

This has happened to me numerous times and each time I cuss at the GD scanner. For what they get in revenue and what they pay for those scanners they sure should work a lot better. I then scan it a second, third, and a fourth time and it finally comes up sorry, not a winner .

I don't get excited because I know the scanners are for crap. (Around here anyway

I've never had a clerk check my tickets to see if it's a winner. I always know how much I've won before I hand the clerk my tickets and if I ever win a big one I plan on going to the main office and not stopping at a store.

But on the other hand, it would be cool to see the looks on everyones face when they realize you just won a big jackpot.

I check my tickets immediately after the drawing. I do not need a machine to confirm any winnings. When my wins are small, I make it very clear that this ticket is a winner, the amount of the win and lean over the counter in an intimidating way watching every move until the cash hits my hands. 7 - 11 staff knows the routine very well.

Do you hand your ticket over to the Clerk and ask So what is the ticket telling you me ? Or do you take a look at the Clerk with a grin say See You later and head out to your mode of transportation - out comes your phone to confirm what the machine is telling you?
