I think that all or at least most people who win jackpot kinds of games win by chance, I think that is is most and not all, those who win big jackpots probably have come out way ahead of have they have spent on playing the lottery in their life-time.

For most people, no matter the lottery game or games played, they all are games of chance.

As a systems player, I enjoy it most when the jackpot is won and split between two people where one was a quick pick and the other a self pick. One relied completely on luck while the other having tweaked his/her system over the years went up against Goliath odds and won! I am very curious to see if any of these recent winners were self picks. I know a win is a win, but I think if I am ever fortunate enough to snag the big one I would feel proud and certainly validated after 2 decades of chasing... [ More ]

I think it is luck. Even if you pick your own numbers there is no guarantee those particular balls will be blown up by the air machine. You are just buying a chance and someday you might get lucky. You have to resolve to keep a ticket (or 2 or 22) in the games you want to win.

Pure chance. I haven't yet run the numbers on Powerball, but given current sales levels, there's about a 1 in 4 chance that someone will win Mega Millions before the jackpot reaches 50 million. The rash of wins is nothing out of the ordinary.

I don't really care about the lottery that much.

Game theory: lottery needs to make money and winners need to win.

Somebody wins, good for them. Everybody should be happy.

If you not happy because you are a loser, then you got issues.

If people win because of cheating then shame on them.

But then again, accusing people of cheating is SHAMEFUL too!

I have not won the lottery yet. I have an awesome NN system with 40 to 50% win

IMHO - If jackpot winner won with a self-pick combination = intelligence and luck.

If won with a QP = he/she was at the right place at the right time = chance and dumb luck

The intelligence part is about 5% and luck is 95%.What constitutes intelligence here is knowing the game and how it's played, buying then checking the ticket after the draw and finally cashing the ticket if it's a winner. Someone with mental handicaps might not know how to do any or all of these steps.

I think both with the recent rash of wins in both MM and PB at relative low jackpot levels.
