CT ... after reading your post, I dug around and found an interesting fact ... the oldest lottery under the US flag is not one of the State lotteries but the U.S. Virgin Islands lottery. They claim it is 71 years old ... I think the first State lotteries were starting in the early 70's ... but not 100% sure.

This information is from the NASPL site that you mentioned in your post.

Here's an interesting stat from a recent Atlantic article about lotteries (it's not pro-lottery but does provide some interesting information):

But it's true: According to the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries, lotteries took in $70.1 billion in sales in the 2014 fiscal year. That's more than Americans in all 50 states spent on sports tickets, books, video games, movie tickets and recorded music sales.
