Definitely would prefer the xtra 30 minutes drive to... I think you mean Baker, but couldn't you still go to Nipton ?

I have been to Primm Nv. when the jackpot was high, there would be a line 1/2 mile or longer in 100 degree weather, you would be in line 2or 3 hours before you made to the front door. It's worth a 30 minute drive to Backer Cal. to but your tickets, in and out in less then two minutes.

Oh yeah, before the border craze Whiskey Pete's was THE stop.

Some of the worker took a bus, some made the drive from Vegas. I knew one guy who said it was a real grind joint but a lot of the players came in buses and left 45 minutes later so it wasn't like having all day strokers on a game in Vegas.

Setting the way back machine here again,

when it was called Stateline the casino now called Primm resort was called The Prima-Donna,

after Gary Primm's wife, Donna.

I knew a few people in Socal that would always make Whiskey Pete's on the southbound side of I-15 their last stop.

There's a gas station there to fill your tank before you took a chance

w/any money you had left, and that tank of gas would get you home to Orange County.

Yeah, all the 'border' casinos on I-15 went up around the same time.

Nipton was just about an hour from Vegas, a nice little get out of town getaway.

One time I went to Nipton and a train stopped, blocking the highway. The California lottery was pumped up for the next draw, and the engineer gad went in to get lottery tickets. When he waved the tickets in the air everybody started clapping and cheering.

Been there many times, the 1st time was so long ago I don't remember how I found it,

maybe there was a billboard ad on the Highway to Hell AKA I-15 ?

or maybe just my habit of looking for small towns off the beaten path ?

Back then Primm was called Stateline, but you already knew that.
