Best bet would be to buy ten at one time, take them home and scratch.

If I bought the first ten tickets, 001 - 10 and let's say 003 and 006 were the only winners, each $20.00 winners I would go back to the same store and purchase the next five (if they were available).

If I bought the first ten tickets, 001 - 10 and let's say 003, 006 and 009 were $50, $40.00 and $50.00 winners I would cash those in and buy ten more at another store.

If I were to only spend $600 only on $20 tickets I would most likely do:

(A) Buy 1 of every $20 ticket the vendor had in stock. If it didn't end up being 30 tickets, I'd go to another store and repeat the process until I met my quota. Reason being, I would assume buying tickets from multiple vendors might increase my chances of hitting something decent. $20 tickets on average usually have odds of winning at 1 in 3. From what I have seen when buying books, yes, there is usually at least one decent winner in there (i.e., $200 to $500). However, if you buy the whole book, you've spent more than that good winner is worth, so you're still down at the end of the day.

As a result, if I had $600 to throw at some $20 scratchers, I would do so in 10 ticket blocks from three different rolls. The odds say you would get three winners from each book... [ More ]

In PA, I would buy a roll. $600 would guarantee me close to $300 with the possibility of a $1000 or $500. If you spread it out, you could easily only get back $100, but could hit multiple hot packs and pay back higher. I think the full roll is the safe bet, if there is a such thing as a safe bet with the lottery

books are 50 in NY - so not sure if would buy some but imo NY does not have any good tickets at $20 or higher right now

I would buy the entire monies worth in a $20 game that was either just released or one with a majority of top prizes left.

If there are multiple games that fit that criteria then I'd go for the one with the best overall odds.

this is specifically about $20 tickets. if you were going to buy (30) $20 tickets: would you buy a full book of (30) tickets or buy (30) different tickets or buy three or five tickets in a row of each of the various tickets or buy them some in some other fashion? please explain your thinking. thanks
