Depends. Is it like Mayberry where everyone knows everyone's business and is always in each other's lives. Or is it a we-keep-to-ourselves and shoot any trespassers type of place? Sometimes a place is so big and crowded that no one pays attention to anyone and that might work out better for a lottery winner than going to a rural community that operates like one big extended family.

Watch ESPN's 30 for 30: Broke. You can watch it on YouTube. It's eye opening. One rookie didn't understand how checks work, and framed instead of cashing his first paycheck, he framed it. You're not going to put someone like that in charge of millions overnight and not have serious financial issues later on.

Ballin ain't cheap. From private jets, mega mansions, exotic cars, sponging entourage, managers/ agent, taxex etc.... All of that can eat through the money quickly.

Normally I'd definitely agree with this premise, but in Walker's case, it was a little different. He sank a whole lotta money into real estate and when that bubble popped, it wasn't a matter of losing here and there. It was a matter of losing almost everything all at once.

I know I know, but as I'm sure you know many athlete's are from low income households were financial planning doesn't/can't exist, there is never any money or the families live from paycheck to paycheck.

Suddenly you have all this money, and maybe people want to buy an Aston-Martin, okay.

But do people really only piss away the money? Or do people want to preserve the wealth and are way in over their head and too trusting or fall for the promises of advisors or become greedy?

In fairness, that guy wasn't an all around dumbass, his investments went belly up, happens to a lot of people.

I think with athletes especially the education is just not there and the sports culture allows it, suddenly you have money and you need to be ballin', otherwise people won't believe you've made it.

They also don't realize how short a career cn be due to injury, and that at some point the stream dries up.

Teddi, thanks for your feedback. The reasons you gave for the MM not being hit on the reset makes sense to me.

I myself haven't really played on the reset that much over the last couple years because i saw it not getting hit like it used to.

I think there are a couple of reasons. Seems to me that there's not much point in spending the money to buy tickets when the MM jackpot is that low because a lot of state jackpots and scratch offs can be had at that amount but with much greater odds.

I don't think that most people would consider a $15 million jackpot chump change (even with a take home value of about a third of that). I think a person should be able to retire on $5M or they need to rethink their spending habits. It's just tha... [ More ]

Power Ball is way better than Mega Millions because the odds are so much better. 67% better, which is massive. Sure the jackpot is smaller. But wouldn't you enjoy a handsome pay out of $15 million verses a lesser chance of earning $40 million?

Personally, I don't play for chump change like that, $15 mil is a weak jackpot. I wouldn't be able to do much with that would still need to work.

I'm shocked that New York even loses when the JP is $15 mil because it's way too easy to win if you buy tickets there.

Think about this, very often even after PB has just got hit the start point is $40M. So if MM started at $15 and does its usual 'grind' the PB starting jp is still more than a MM jp that has rolled a few times.

the combos and still have a winner, it depends if qp or lucky self pick hits the combo.

There was a time when the starting JP got hit at least twice a year. I know there are lots of people out there that would love to hit that 15 mil. You could make do with that.
