i raised my ernie bonds to quite a level over my life, but recently, because of low interest rates, and a recent raise in the exchange rate, i pulled em all out of UK and returnrd the balance to AUD Australian dollars. i was getting a payment about every 4 months. but as the interest rates dropped toe priz payments dropped, and waiting times to win a prize went up. I think i did the right thing.

Premium Bonds are simply a savings account you can put money into (and take it out when you want), where the interest paid is decided by a monthly prize draw. So put a grand in and you get 1,000 1 bonds. Each of these is then individually entered into the prize draw. They can be bought online, over the phone, by post or through... [ More ]

As Premium Bonds have been very successful in the UK!

A Premium Bond is a lottery bond issued by the United Kingdom government's National Savings and Investments agency. The bonds are entered in a regular prize draw and the government promises to buy them back, on request, for their original price. The bonds were introduced by Harold Macmillan in 1956.

The government pays interest on the bond (1.35% in May 2015). Interest is paid into a fund from which a monthly lottery distributes... [ More ]
