It's too much.

PA has gone overboard. Raffles 4 times per year is dumb...they just released new instant tickets too this month...that's on the heels

of the Christmas tickets...they can keep their raffle tickets. I hope this one doesn't sell out either, they may reconsider making

it special again. 4 times per year isn't special....or exciting. As a matter of fact, it hasn't been special or exciting for the last few times

they've run it. $20 a pop is much better spent on a daily 1 x $2... [ More ]

Not a big deal on your ticket numbers. That's happened to me before. (More than once too, I might add. It's happened to me in Connecticut as well as Pa. BTW, have you noticed there are no Ct SuperDraw tickets this year?)

What happened to you is that at the same exact moment that you were buying your tickets, someone else bought a ticket, but their transaction was processed by the computer a split second ahead of your second ticket. They got ticket number 02 and you got 03. O... [ More ]

I have to believe that The PA Lottery did NOT make a whimsical decision to offer four raffles per year. The PA lottery website always had a countdown, except for the last one. They were probably too embarrassed to do one since the sales were so weak. Probably by the week of Christmas they will post the countdown. Just be careful if timing buying on the last day, they can sell up to 40K tickets in that day. I will certainly be cutting back on this one, I wont be buying as many as the last raffle.

I agree, I cant see why they wouldn't sell out, especially with Christmas in the sales cycle.

I agree too, it's way too early to buy. January 2nd is a Saturday. I'm waiting until that day in the afternoon to buy mine. If it looks like they'll sell out sooner, then I'll buy mine sooner. The problem for me with that, is that I live in New York State, about an hours drive to PA. So I rely on the terrific folks who post here to tell everyone what ticket numbers are selling on what dates.

Saw the tickets went on sale already for the next raffle for the drawing on Jan 2. Only 11 days between the end of the last drawing and the start of the new one. I think this one will sell out this time. Can imagine why anyone would buy tickets this early.

Noticed that late winning cluster, but didn't realize how late in the raffle those tickets were purchased until you pointed it out. My 3 tickets weren't that close, though one was within shooting distance of the $1 million; 65xxx, 202xxx, 281xxx. Spreading out the purchases isn't a bad approach for those, like me, who only bought a few tickets. However, for players wagering more heavily, buying mostly near the end, based on past results of many PA raffles, is the better approach.

Good input CW, and as crazy as thus may sound, I may do the same thing with a group of 8 tickets that I'm planning to buy for the next raffle.

Because I have to drive about an hour to buy them, if the weather's not good, seven guys might not be too happy with me. But then, I will have the 20 bucks each of them gave me to hand back to them, so that might take the sting out of it. An observation from the raffle that just ended ... I finally got around to actually checking my numbers. I had scanned the tickets on Monday but never checked my numbers against the winning list of numbers ... to see how close any of my tickets might have been to one of the eight large winning tickets.

None of my tickets were close to any large prize ... however, it seems again that those that bought last minute tickets on Oct 31st ... just hours before the drawing had a shot at several large... [ More ]

GG ... yes, maybe next time. With the final ticket sales looking to be low, I did get some extra tickets for this raffle ... live and learn.

Going back to my usual two tickets from now on ... Lady Luck doesn't care how many tickets you have ... as long as you have at least one. She needs something to work with.

G5 has good karma going for him in the next raffle drawing ... buying a winning ticket for his brother. Something good will come his way.

Now, some of you good folks may know that I live in New York State, and that I drove about an hour to PA to buy raffle tickets for this last raffle.

I bought a total of 11 tickets. Seven for me, three for two guys at work, and one for my brother.

The day before I drove over to PA, I saw my brother. Here's a bit of how our conversation went;

YP ... all I can find now is the press release from last August from the Lottery. I assumed it would always be the last day of the quarter.

I don't know what they are doing with the dates ... maybe in the last month of every quarter the drawing could be any day ... from the 1st day to the last day. Makes no sense but if they want to jump all over the place with drawing dates ... it's their raffle.

Ron ... are you sure about the next drawing on Jan 2nd ... it was supposed to be Jan 31st ... they were going to be every three months. It was called a seasonal raffle ... Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer.

I did not see the news item you mentioned ... if that's true, then it sounds like the Lottery took the raffle back to twice a year.

Firstly, total tickets sold for the raffle just ended was 356,904 out of 500,000.

71.4% ticket sell-through. Payout $5,089,200 / Revenue $7,138,080 = 71.3% overall prize payback (~20% above that of typical numbers games).

According to the latest PA Lottery news posting, the next raffle is scheduled to start Nov-10th with drawing on Jan-2nd. Presumably, sales will be limited to 500,000 tickets with same prize structure as the past raffle. Another chance with great odds of winning a $million... [ More ]

I won $100, not too bad, better than the last few years. I will double check my losers at the scanner. If the lottery has this over the Christmas time frame, I imagine they will all sell out as it will be the normal time frame plus they will sell as great Christmas gifts. Best raffle odds ever. Bought 3 tickets. And I wiped out again

Hopefully, someone here had better luck...

Overall odds of winning anything is 1 in ~60. Great for the raffle, but still pales to $20 instant tickets, which have overall odds of 1 in ~3 (nearly 20X better).

The published list is out of order, and while searching list is effective, it doesn't preclude the possibility of errors in the list. Double-check on a ticket scanner.

Unless they do what Ohio did on a raffle a couple of years ago. Sales were lackluster, about like the current pa, so I purchased several more in the final hour thinking odds favored it. Then Ohio announced they were extending the drawing for several more days to give everyone a chance to get tickets. Total bs

I just picked up one last Hail Mary Pass ticket at 9:12 am and it was just under 324,000 ... they can shut the ticket sales off right now, suit me just fine ... but I'm sure that won't happen.

Actually all numbers ticket sales close at 12 midnight.

I buy my tickets most nights after work between 11:30 12.

It would be interesting if they don't sell all 500k tickets this time.

Your probably right now count down = a lot of leftover tickets?

Ron ... thanks for the lottery information. Well three tickets are good for this raffle with around 350,000 tickets maybe sold ... that's 150,000 tickets that are not in the barrel with the old 500,000 number.

Around 5:15 am PA Lottery is up and can sell numbers tickets. However, checking / redemption of any tickets, including instants, doesn't start until around 6 am.

On many (maybe all?) days, all numbers ticket sales close at 10:45 pm. Not sure if they resume anytime afterwards. Furthermore, not sure if this is a recent change or something PA Lottery has long done, but didn't notice. I've purchased tickets well into the 11 pm hour in the distant past. Here's the lonnnnnnnnng answer;

A few years ago, I went to buy a Sweet Million ticket. (A NY online game that was retired in June of 2014) SM drawings were held at approximately 9PM on Monday's and Thursday's. I never tried to buy tickets during those times, so i cannot comment. Maybe the third shift people will know. I will check tonight after 10 to see if the count down timer says less than 1 days remaining or less than 0 days remaining. I am guessing it is automated and will switch to an hourly count down.

G5 ... are NY lottery terminals still on through the night? ... in PA they are not shut down for a drawing, a window pops up at game shut off time saying that any tickets purchased now will have tomorrow's date. It's business as usual. I think a human terminal prints out a ticket saying the same thing.

However, I wonder if the PA lottery system is offline through the night till 5 or 6 in the morning?

I don't know about PA, but in NY, they shut down all lottery terminals shortly before draw time. Once the drawing is held, they turn them back on. Any tickets purchased after they're turned back on are for the next scheduled drawing.

Because a vending machine selling tickets for online games is a lottery terminal too, I would think they'd be shut down as well. G5

I don't know but can a person buy lottery tickets 24 hours at these self-serve terminals ... or are they now shut down till tomorrow morning. The reason I ask is that last year in the winter, I would go early to Sheetz which is open 24 hrs but the lottery terminals were turned on at 6 am every morning.

If there was snow or freezing rain on the way ... I would make that early trip to be there at 6am or a few minutes before to get my tickets and head back to be off the roads.

Coworker and I bought our last shared tickets, just shy of 279k this am. About 15k tickets sold in last 24 hours. Less than 2.5 days remaining in real time, not sure how many days the PA lottery thinks remians.

I just checked the site and they are saying Under Two Days Left ... at this time as I post this ... there are OVER 2 1/2 days still left before the drawing.

My thinking is a mind set thing ... get people to rush to buy tickets ... make it look like there's less time than there actually is.

I don't know why the PA Lottery is off on their timing for the raffle game when they are able to have the correct time for all the other lottery games.

I had not bought a ticket for a few days ... decided to get one today ... around 210,500 sold and 9 days to go.

Don't know if they will get to 300,000 ... but today is probably payday for some people so sales may be better.

If anyone cares to post where the ticket sales are currently at ...
