I was going to try one of these in NC until i saw the word fee. I'd also like to know what happens if the machine screws up because you know peter patel won't come out to help you especially when it's zero outside.

you are correct Crazy wombat thanks for catching that- its 600 or less.

And yes anything over that is taxable wins by the feds. So if PA does go by way of credit deposits, a record will be kept and you can pretty much be guaranteed Uncle Sam will expect his lions share.

Just thought of something....If they are promoting Group pools, then that one person will get nailed if they are the ones buying the tickets thru the Gas Pump for the group....Something to think about for those that are s... [ More ]

GG ... you make a good point about small wins of $599 or is it $600 being tax free and anything under those amounts like $500 ... you walk out with your cash and no records.

Buying tickets at the pump or online someday ... if that happens ... what if a person had lots of small wins totaling $800 or $1,500 ... would you have to declare al those small win totals at the end of the year for taxes. Everything is recorded and there is a year-end total.

2: gift cards or reloadable cards

3: cc's too easy to steal info

4: uncle sam need not know of the 500$ winnings thru out the year.

5: play with cash, get paid with cash.

6: play with credit... and kiss the funds goodbye... someone will find away to get your funds... they do it already with bank cards... no thanks.

7: quick pick only. quick lose often.

PA needs to get its head out of its butt.

I'm about fed up with the tactics they're pulling lately. Raffle too many times per

year, instant tickets out each month - 5 to 6 to choose from, restructure of games that

were fun odds-wise but which are now as bad as other big games....bringing new games

out which are similar to other states and calling it 'what the people want' and now this

garbage. The greed factor is thorough the roof.

No, it wouldn't make it impossible. If these people want to spend thousands on credit cards, they'll just write a convenience check or get a cash advance. Very simple, very easy.

ZG ... so you already have the system in place ... thanks for the additional information. So there is a limit on how many tickets can be bought at one time or on the card every week.

That would make it impossible, at least in NC ... to go crazy and spend thousands of dollars on lottery tickets for a big jackpot game ... unless the jackpot carries over for weeks or months.

I will still walk inside to get my tickets and use cash ... I will have that ticket in my hand.

Coming from a state with pay at the pump lottery tickets and having done it to be able to answer questions.

real life experience.

fisrt step at pump after you determine method of payment is to choose purchase of lottery tickets, yes or no

second step is lottery type, ie powerball, mm, or state lottery. You only get three or four choices.

step three choose amount to buy. Usually limited to $20 max. Depends on limit set by your state. Also has limit of how many you can purchase a week

It's no different than using a debit/credit card at the pump for purchasing gas or any other type of purchase in a store. Did you know that lots of now stores have self serving checks-outs?

And some offer cash back with no extra charge.

Yes I'm glad that I can use a credit card in MA also. I have never had a problem so far with my Credit Union refusing the order ... it is a legitimate charge and not from some offshore casino or such.

I still have a subscription going to Nov 29th but I have my numbers ready to go ... I will order soon after Nov 12th since it takes 3 to 4 weeks for the subscription to actually start.

Nice jackpot building ...

I just went to their website to look for the Holiday sale. Thanks for posting that. I just might get a second set of numbers. And put them on my credit card.

But as with any other purchase, I never charge more than what I can pay off at the end of each month.

Well I'm thinking that the lottery people are MA state employees or state lottery employees. I don't think a contractor handles their lottery but I don't know for sure.

So when not answering phones they have other work ... I would think.

I called the MA Lottery on Friday to get some information on the Mass-Cash game ... I asked about the Holiday Special in Nov ... it will start on Nov 12th for the Megabucks game for out-of-state players.

No limit that I know of. I have a card with a limit of $50K. The only thing stopping me from putting $50K on that credit card, whether it's lottery or shoes or electronics, is the good sense that natural selection gave me.

If someone wants to spend $4,000 they don't have on trying to win a $900 million jackpot, not being able to use a credit card to purchase the tickets isn't gonna stop them. They'll just write a convenience check. If they don't have the sense to realize that throwing $4k at... [ More ]

To both you and Ron ... it just seems dangerous to charge lottery tickets. For one thing ... is there a limit on a one time lottery purchase? ... or would it be whatever the card limit is?

For example ... say a credit card limit is $5,000 and someone really thinks they can hit a $900 million dollar Powerball jackpot ... so they buy 2,000 PB tickets at a cost of $4,000. Let's presume they win nothing or just a small amount of that $4,000 back ... but now they decide not to pay the credit card... [ More ]

We can use credit cards for lottery in Idaho. It's up to each retailer whether they want to accept them or not. The largest c-store, Jackson's, does not take credit for lottery and neither does Fred Meyer nor Rite Aid. But Albertson's does at the customer service counter, the liquor stores (state run) do, and Stinker stations also. I like getting my 1% back on lottery purchases and feel like I make out like a bandit when I can buy my lottery at a store that one of my cards is paying 5% back that... [ More ]

Normally, the merchant pays the fee, which can range upwards of 4% though can be low as 1.5% or so for big chains, such as Wawa and Sheetz. Presumably, that's much of the reason lottery retailers don't accept credit cards, since that cuts deeply into their ~5% lottery commission, or even eliminate it for small purchases due to the flat transaction fee(s) that's also usually charged.

This just sounds like a complicated mess ... I wouldn't be interested. With the problems that I have had at self-serve lottery terminals ... maybe buying $10 in tickets would end up $100 on my credit card.

I would never put a purchase on a debit card ... you can't dispute that like you can with a credit card purchase ... but disputing a charge on a credit card could also be a tough go, I would think.

According to the latest Pennsylvania Bulletin, PA Lottery is proposing to offer Play at Pump. According to the notice, Mega Millions and Powerball will be among the first games offered. No playslips nor self-selection. Quickpick only.
