Yes, I play in NY, but I usually play only the jackpot games. Very rarely will I bet on numbers...unless I see a license plate whose numbers strike me.

There's only so much you can play without going broke.

If you follow the instructions for Posting an image in a forum message, Blog entry, or for your avatar

you will be able to post a picture and see it after posting it.

NY State just started something called CLOSE ENOUGH You play a pick 3 or pick 4 and even if you are 1, 2, 3 or all 4 numbers off, you can still win.

I finally got around to playing this. I don't have any luck choosing Pick 3 so I just got a QP with the Sum It Up which turned out to be 15, one of the most common. So now I'm waiting till 2 and hope I won.

What would your strategy be, ArizonaDream? Would you just play your pick 3 numbers like normal and hope the Sum hits too, or would you strategize to figure out which sum should fall and play that angle? Or ...

Am I seeing things?

2 chances in 1000, or 1 in 500 to get a sum of 0 or 27 (000 or 999) and it pays 500?

6 ways to get a sum or 1 or 26, or 1 in 166.66 and it pays 166.

Too lazy to do the math on the rest, but yeah, bring it to Illinois, I'll play.

I don't usually play Pick 3. But I thought about it when I saw the new thingy until I noticed it cost another dollar. I might play if it was the same price.

The $500 prize would only be given for triples anyway 000 or 999 so it would behoove a player to buy 2 separate $1 tickets worth $500 each so they could cash them without giving their SSN. If they bought the Sum It Up, the ticket would be worth $1000 which would have to be cashed at the lottery offices who send the info to the IRS.

Looks like the odds are about the same as all the other ways to play. For each dollar you put in, on average, you'll get back a little less than 50 .

For an extra dollar, even if your Pick 3 numbers don't match, you can win if the sum of your numbers is the same as the sum of those drawn. And if your numbers do match, you can win both ways. Is this incentive for anyone to play the extra buck?
