TimeLine: May 6th 1937, Lakehurst, N.J.

After crossing over the ocean, the hydrogen filled *airship HINDENBURG mysteriously exploded killing 35 of the 97 passengers on board one US navy crewman on the ground.

*Hindenburg other air ships had previously proved travel safe for international travel cutting ocean crossings by many days.
